The problem though, Pecks, is that MOST people are clueless about their native languages, roots and culture.

Johnny Boy is spot on , how many British decendant Aussies know anything about their roots and culture - **** all . Most seem to go out of their way to deride it and pay out on any Aboriginal who wants to embrace his . We're a WEIRD mob.

    :lol:You're a real scrambled egg.
You think the importance of a guy with scottish/Irish bloodlines who grew up in Oz is the same? It's not, and never has been.

Maori's are a better comparison, and a fair amount of them are far more educated on their culture and roots than the average aborigine.

Mate, If you understood the history of our country you would then understand why there is a huge gap in knowing about our culture.

My mum and other aboriginal kids where caned by the nunns at school for speaking aboriginal ...they learnt quickly that it was better not to speak it and it was soon forgotten.

Maoris have a warrior culture, Aboriginals do not. Could have something to do with how "elements" have creeped into pop culture. You know the noble warrior myth.

Just throwing that out there, could be completely wrong I dont know.

I see what you mean mate, but my point was that it's difficult for todays society to embrace when it's not so evident in todays society. Not that aborigines inexplicably lost knowledge about their own culture.

Mate in response to what you have said here here are some facts of truth
: My Grandmother was not allowed to teach her kids Aboriginal language, My mother and her siblings were treated like cattle and told to act white, most of her siblings were taken from the family and thus lost to culture( or what was allowed) The government made sure that culture was not practice through more extreme measures then you would ever know.
