Mundine & Green What Now? Geale is Champ..

Top 2, 3, 5 whatever - I settled on 2 because I was looking at how they performed in championship fights...you can add Siaca to Mundine's list - another 'L' at world level - and Kariuki to Geale's - another 'W' for him - if you like...:yep

Following the logic being used here, Wood should be considered Mundine's top opponent because he KO'd him in less time than Ottke did :nut

 

He can get that either way, and with more prestige the other way.
It might just take a little longer.

 

A low risk defence against a fading bum in Mundine where he not only gets a good pay day but gives 98% of the Aussie public what they deserve and that's another Mundine knock out.

Yep, and all that is a good reason.

But not good enough IMO, if you look at what a ****wit Mandy was when he was ordered to rematch Geale over a year ago. And the fact he has faded so much it is pointless from that POV.

Geale can still have a low risk defence and make ok money, beyond that he'll work up to bigger and better challenges, until he has all the belts and big $$.

All the while he didn't need to lower himself to the Mandy circus standard.

Geale is just too much of a nice guy. Boxing is no NRL or AFL, it dont work like that. Bums on seats and PPV pay the bills.....

If fact I would go so far to say -apart from his fight with Mundine - that Garth Wood earned in the rematch with Mundine double of what Geale has earned in his whole career.

 

It'll be a sad day when a loud mouth, silly ganster outfits, plastic crowns and the ability to make people hate you are prerequisits for boxing success in Australia.

Kostya has a very healthy bank balance because he was a good fighter - likewise Lester Ellis, Tony Mundine Snr, Johnny Famechon, Lionel Rose, Jimmy Carothers, etc, earned substantial money using their ability, not their mouths.

Are you not selling us just a little short by suggesting a Tasmanian born, indigenous Aussie with 3 kids who happens to be respectable and well spoken can't appeal to the Australian public?

Geale has continually said that he wants to fight the best, and very likely wants to leave a legacy behind he can be proud of.

Ending your career with money, but with the Australian public hating you, a reputation for taking easy fights and leaving no legacy to speak of, doesn't appeal to everybody, least of all it would seem Daniel Geale.

It also depends on what you feel ok money is.

Well Mundine has done well money wise but I know it's not really a good way of doing it (haters are PPV etc). But I think Danny Green is a good example of how to do it - but Geale would need to change a bit to be like that thats all.

The fighter is really a 'product' when it's all said and done, and it's about 'marketing' that product in the most advantageous way.

To break into the market you either have to go head-to-head with what's already out there productwise.

In this case that option is to try and promote yourself as a bigger mouth and more flamboyant than Mundine.

OR

You do the smarter thing and promote your unique differences to what's already in the market.

In Geale's case, he's likable, respectable, honest etc.


Things go in and out of fashion. The timing might just be right for a likable, respectable, honest fighter to be embraced again by the Australian public.

The public and the media have sure had more than a gutful of the other guy and his antics and a 180 degree change from that might amount to marketing genius.

 

Yes I think so. If Geale just says that he wants revenge on Mundine, then fights him and beats him then he will get profile.

At the end of the day he should use Mundine. Its ok to say don't give Mundine a look in but it is the best for him. When you have kids you gotta put bread on the table. Of course its most important to set a good example but I don't think Geale would lose an ounce of cred by fighting Mundine again.

It's funny when ppl call it a Mundine circus. When you look at it there is not much difference between a circus and boxing. Hire venue, get the acts, sell the show
