ANTHONY Mundine left Sydney for the US yesterday to chase his dream of a big-time fight in Las Vegas. Mundine hopes to return by next weekend with a three-fight deal that will finally convince the Australian public he can make it on the fight game's biggest and most demanding stage. "I'll fight any body, any place, any time," The Man told The Sunday Telegraph as he was about to board the flight for Los Angeles. Determined to prove he can achieve far more than belting up outclassed opponents in his home country, Mundine has signed a three-month deal with one of America's most respected managers Cameron Dunkin to secure him the fights. Dunkin manages the affairs of a number of US world champions and has no doubts The Man will be a smash hit in the States. "He's been a great champion. He's 36 years old, but he's still an outstanding fighter, and there's great fights out there for him," Dunkin told a American boxing website. "He could fight Chavez Jr., he could fight Miguel Cotto, or he could fight Canelo (Saul Alverez). "He can fight any of those guys. He's really a 154-pounder, but whoever's a big fight for him, he's ready to go." Mundine confirmed Australia's greatest boxer Jeff Fenech would be part of the team for the US fights. On Boxing Day he visited the triple world champion at his Five Dock home to discuss a role. "Jeff was a great fighter on the front foot," Mundine said. "Technically he knew how to punch and he can help me in that area with my dad. "He's also very passionate about the sport. He said he'd help me with anything. "With all his contacts and friends no-one has connections in America like Jeff Fenech." Mundine is travelling alone but will link up with Dunkin at his Los Angeles base. Dunkin has close connects with Top Rank and the head honcho Bob Arum. "If they can get me an opportunity, I'll take care of the rest," Mundine said. "I want the dream fights and I want Australia to get behind me. "A four fight deal three in America and one in Australia is what I'm after. "I know 36 is not to old in boxing. I didn't start until late. " The Americans will love my style. They love charisma and they love showmanship. "That's what it's all about. That's what the big TV networks want
So the Beige Messiah has had his epiphany. Pity it's 6 years too late. A 3 fight deal won't be of much use, he won't make it past the first one.
I like how everyone on here thinks they get points for trying to be funny rather than keeping to the topic. Anyhow it looks like mundine thought he was that important that fighters would come out here to take him on,but he has finally realised you have to travel to.
C'mon mate, how long has Mandy been beating this drum for? Plenty of Mandys die hard fans gave up on him some time ago, the fan base is dwindling. You can't begrudge the h8rz for having some fun with the last remaining huggers. :yep
Don't get too excited Bazil we heard this over 3 years ago. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99013 Daniel Dawson.:deal
Anthony who.....lol....his best chance for recognition in the US would be on Idol busting out a few rap tunes!
I will type it again. WON"T HAPPEN. Didn't Mundine go over to the States about 4 or 5 years ago and have a caesar salad with Oscar De La Hoya. Of course nothing eventuated.
And LOL at mandy talking about fenech as having all the contacts in the USA. Isnt that why he is signing with dunkin?
