it had to be said, because you are going to start another thread whining and bitching like a school girl about mundine any time now. Lets see how long it takes before someone starts another mundine hater thread. Let me tell you there getting OLD.
The reason why we talk about Mundine is because we have lots of closet nut huggers in here Just jokes......it's that Mundine has such a diverse fan base....let me explain 1. 10% Nut huggers....these guys don't change if he fights Pintos or Pavlik...they support him 2. 10% fans....they like Mundine but don't get the shakes when he fights 3. 10% closet nut huggers scared to come out of the closet and admit they support Mundine for fear of ridicule 4. 50% haters........they pay big money to see Mundine get KTFO....even if they don't tell people 5. 10% who hope he will step up but pretend they are not fans 6. 10% who want him to fight the best so they can support him 7. 10% who sit on the fence and say nothing So as you can see love him or hate him or in denial he gets lots of press.....he has talent and class for a NRL player and could still get a few more vacant titles or regular titles over the next 2 or 3 years.....not the best in the world but top 3 or 4 in 2 weight divisions is great :good Not many fighters have 110% of the supporter base
Mundine is one of the biggest sporting personalities in Australia period. Most people wouldn't have even heard of Darchinyan or Katsidis.
It's a shame that Katsidis and Darchinyan don't get as much publicity as they should (especially Vic) but that's because of two reasons; 1. boxing does not have a mainstream following in the Australian press. 2. Unlike like rugby league, cricket and aussie rules, boxing doesn't have sponsors for the actual sport. No advertising means no exposure. Go looking through a newspaper after a heavyweight world title fight and you'll be lucky to find anything at all. As for Mundine, he promotes himself whatever way possible, negative or positive he gets publicity which gets people talking. Vic's still learning English.
My experience is the exact opposite. It's those that don't have a great deal to do with boxing that seem to have issues with Mundine....the people that pass judgement via News Ltd articles and boxing forums. Everyone that knows the guy well is a fan.
1/ 'Everyone that know the guy well' is a very small number of people indeed. 2/ 'Everyone that know boxing' is by contrast a much bigger group. 3/ 'Everyone that has an interest in boxing' is a much, much bigger group again. The first group are fairly consistent with the 'Mundine only acts that way when the cameras are on him' line. The second group, though they don't know him personally, have been around long enough to be able to see right through Mundine's hollow media promises of world domination, comparisons with Bradman etc, and as a consequence are just sick to death of his verbal diarrhea, his management and his no-hoper hangers-on. The last group, and the vast majority of boxing fans, either believe what he tells them, or dislike him enough to pay the entrance fee, hoping to see him lose. I'm unashamedly a member of the middle group.
and thats a shame, it really bothers me these two guys are taking risks at the International level and deserve respect. I just dont know, I guess its best to be a flamboyant *******! yet Mundine is a ****ing fraud, are the fans that that damn gullible? I find it halarious how this fraud can generate such interest. When you have true world class fighters taking risks!
Raf.... nice return mate. Take into account, Kats and Vic are not 'taking risks' as such. Simply pursuing the highest level with themselves truly tested. Neither man has allowed 'huggers', pro-active press, bearded arseholes or camophlaged oponents consume thier respective careers. The fan base for Vic and Kats are no different in Oz to that of TeamRipOff. The only difference being, the most of us hope to see a great Mundine fight night, with a finale of Mundine being KO'd by the lesser oponent he is consistently matched with. Place Mundine on any card in the USA, Canada, England or Algeria.. if Mundine actually had managers with credibilty fatter than their wallets and had faith in Mundine for the sake of matching O/S again, the support base in Oz would become a little more realistic in terms of encouragement. The sad fact is, TeamKhoder are illegitimate, unqualified and totally unrealistic as far as a Team to dream of more than dollar signs via shitful enterprise. They make enormous sums of money, yet each promotion has a stench train following. The Geale bout being brilliant...... however, there's a filthy hole of circumstance that ensures. Unfortunately, the night was tainted by negatives that take precedent over the fight quality. A shame in itself, being such a great fight. Vic and Kats are not being wasted overseas. They will be treated as legends all the same.
I know what you mean. It's just cause he's in the papers all the time over here. He's always current, always doing something.
