Mundine vows to make doubters eat their words after rejecting charge he couldn't make weight

Fighting talk...Anthony Mundine says he was on track to make the 69.7kg limit for his junior middleweight bout against Rob Medley. Photo: Simon Alekna

AFTER shedding three kilograms in just a week of dieting, Anthony Mundine has no fears about again attempting to fight at junior middleweight, and might seek to do so if an opportunity arises to challenge for the WBA world title.
Mundine, who will now put his WBA international belt on the line against Rob Medley on Monday night after deciding not to fight under the jurisdiction of the IBO, yesterday rejected any suggestion he had abandoned his goal of becoming the first boxer to win world titles in three descending weight divisions because he could not make the 69.7kg junior middleweight limit.
In contrast, Mundine said he had been comfortably on target to make the weight a week out from the fight, and would not be afraid to do so again after his next fight at super-middleweight against the winner of The Contender final, which will be the main undercard at Sydney Entertainment Centre.
''I'm like Manny Pacquiao, I'm up there in the pound-for-pounders, :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofland I will fight at any weight,'' Mundine said. ''I got down to 71.5kg so I was where I wanted to be, and then they changed pace on me - but that's OK. My management opted to do that, and I know they've got my best interests at heart and are doing what's best for me, so I've just got to roll with it. There was an initial let-down but I know I can do it.
''It would've been another notch on my belt and step in my legacy, something I could look back [at] and say I created history,:lol::lol::lol::lol: but it still isn't too late, and I know I can make the weight and still be strong.
''It was the first time I had dieted so I wasn't too sure within myself how I would go, but I was quite surprised that I got down to middleweight, and I was eating a lot and drinking a lot of water. I was just training very hard and I got down to 72.5kg, and then I was 72 kg and one day after training I was 71.7kg, so I thought, 'Wow, this is possible.' However, the three-time world champion did admit he had been missing his daily fix of two chocolate bars - the non-drinking and smoking former NRL star's only vice.
''I gave them up when I was talking about making junior middleweight - but when I got the word that it was going to be at middleweight, I had a chocolate about 30 seconds after that,'' he said.
Mundine was reluctant to talk about his reasons for refusing to fight in an IBO-sanctioned fight but said his allegiances since taking up boxing in 2000 had been with the WBA, and the controversy over his IBO middleweight world title defeat of Medley's stablemate Daniel Geale in Brisbane last year reinforced that. ''I really felt the fight against Geale I won unanimously. It was a competitive fight but for them to give it a split decision, I'm not real happy about that,'' he said.
Medley said he was unconcerned about the change as the fight was initially scheduled to be a middleweight bout until the IBO offered to put their vacant junior middleweight belt up for grabs. ''It's a little bit disappointing [not fighting for a world title], but having a shot at 'The Man' still makes it worthwhile,'' Medley said.

Mundine said he'd like to have an opportunity to fight for the WBA title, and he was talking about 154. So, he wants a fight with yuri foreman?
OK. Not if foreman lands a pac fight, because just because choc thinks he's a p4p'er like pac doesn't mean we the fans do. He needs to fight sturm to have any credibilty at 160 lbs, and keep kelly pavlik's name out
    of his mouth.

ash funny thing about choc is the worse his opponents are,the more he pisses people off,the more he brags..the more publicity everyone gives him.
Dont think there was this much talk when he fought kessler or geale.
It aint good talk, but any publicity will do it for him.
I think the more people say there not going to watch it ....that more people will actually watch it.:huh

hey luds, are you that no-necked, bald, dopey-looking fat **** in Mundine's entourage?

The guy who looks like he's Lebanese or Middle Eastern but also like he's got one of those Indian dots in the middle of his fat forehead?

Yeah ticket sales are going ok.....when I tried to buy them the day before the IBO fallout all the good Gold reserve were gone :patsch

Dont know if the IBO fallout is hurting the sales now but one would think they will get 7,000 :good....maybe more considering the undercard

Is this state the obvious day? :deal
Well duh, if he brags but fights bad opponents, naturally it pisses people off.
Braggers can be tolerated if they back up their brag.
And again, duh.... These were quality opponents and got the respect they deserved.
It might do it for him now, but his fan base is shrinking, and that eventually won't do it for him.
Now that's good logic. Not. :bart
Where do you get this idea from? His PPVs are shot to ****.
