Mundine picks weak Clavero This content is protected Warning: stripos() [ This content is protected ]: Offset not contained in string. in /clientdata/clients/s/p/*********.com.au/www/entry.php on line 112 Anthony Mundine has picked the weakest possible opponent in Argentina's limited Jose Alberto Clavero for their December 10 fight at Sydney Entertainment Centre. Clavero lasted just seven rounds with Sam Soliman at Penrith Panthers in 2004 and was disqualified in five rounds against Paul Briggs in 2006. He has won just two of his last seven fights. And those wins were against a pair of fighters with a combined record of just wins in 43 starts. It will be the first in a series of bouts Mundine hopes will lead to a fight against the winner of this weekend's Mikkel Kessler-Joe Calzaghe showdown . Mundine has been out of the ring since June due to a ruptured biceps and career-threatening eye injury.
His last fight was a draw with Acosta!!!! And Solimon KO him!!! His WBA ranking is 15......not a bad step up for Mundine i guess  http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=30734&cat=boxer
What a joke...anyone else get the feeling Mundine's going to be 'suffering' from injuries every time he has to fight a mandatory?
This is really ridiculous - how long is this guy going to pull this crap? The way things are going, I seriously doubt he will ever face the LOSER of Calzaghe vs Kessler, much less the winner. Mundine is a ****ing clown - when was the last time he fought back-to-back worthy opponents? Check his record out - 10 fights before he fought Ottke (ooh, amazing, a world title fight in only his 11th fight! OOH!! AAHH!!) Another 8 fights before he fought Echols - and it was a mandatory fight for the vacant title, in other words, he had to fight Echols or he would be seen as giving up a title shot. 1 defence against a tin can before losing the title to Siaca. 3 more joke fights (including a rematch vs Sullivan) before finally a step up vs Kessler - again, his mandatroy shot at the champ, if had refused to fight Kessler, he would be seen as a coward. 2 more joke fights before fighting Green. 1 joke fight before fighting Soliman. 1 joke fight before sitting out most of 2007 'injured'. And now another joke fight scheduled. In a career spanning 32 fights, we've seen him face 6 worthy opponents - Ottke, Echols, Siaca, Kessler, Green and Soliman. Not a very high percentage of good fights, considering he has been claiming to be the best since 2000.
No way they would let him, even though he would still do quite well. No suprises here, this is the way Mundine has been allowed to roll by his fans and the ignorant public, cant blame him for continuing the trend and cashing in.
after a lay off with these injuries this is the one time i don't mind that he is fighting a weak argentinian, still would rather see him tackle someone of higher class but considering the situation this is smart
How many times have we heard this same excuse though? Mundine always seems to have these lay-offs that excuse him taking on weak opponents.
