Yes he only defended his title like 20 times and he never lost so i spose he has no idea about boxing.atsch And had over 300 amatuer fights.
Is it possible that Mundine realises that to lift his profile on the world stage he needs to fight a yank or two? Personally I thought he would go for Manfredo If this fight is made it will be quite good and even though Griffin has been out for 18 months his draw in Germany V Sturm should have been a world title for him.....also draws against Y. Mack and J.O.Toney make Randy a dangerous fighter. With Martinez v Pavlik still not signed lets hope HBO agree to Mundine and that Mundine will take a pay cut and fight Pavlik April 17
HBO wield too much power at the moment in boxing. To sell mundine as a credible opponent they just need to give "the man" a microphone and camera and let him talk his game.
I hope this fight comes off, it will be great for Mundine to really test himself. For all his faults the guys is a gifted athlete and boxer, it would be good to see if he fufill his potential before its too late.
To truly turn the tide IMO he needs to have atleast 4 fights against top 10 opponents...not necessarily win all but do himself some justice and represent all the bull**** and put pay to all the baggage he has accumulated.
after 2 years out of action Mundine is a good tune up for Griffin IMO.bit of a risk for him fighting in Sydney with Mundines/Khoders hand picked judges etc. but knocking him out should take thhat out of the equation.
He never lost "officially", but if you really think the guy was undefeated over the span of his career, then you obviously have never watched all of his fights. He may have had a good amateur record, but the guy was the pure definition of a protected European fighter, that never fought outside his backyard, and either padded his record by fighting bums, or paying off corrupt officials to judge fights in his favour. Just watch Ottke vs Reid if you want to see boxing at it's WORST. The history of Ottke robberies is one of the main reasons Germany has such a shocking reputation of corruption, and is the reason why so many top fighters simply refuse to go there. I don't blame Mundine for a second if he had hesitations of having to fight Sturm over there.
You and almost everyone else who loves boxing for boxings sake would feel the same way. And for most now it's simply to little to late.....and he still hasn't signed to fight a credible international.... Even at this stage of his career in the face of mounting criticism from his fans and peers.
oh but hey he's made millions atsch a dollar for everyone that hates him, way to earn a quid alright....
No boxer is remebered for thier millions....thier financial achievements never garner admiration...it's a byproduct of a tough profession.
