ROY JONES JNR'S shock first-round loss to Danny Green might have cost Anthony Mundine a fight in Las Vegas on the undercard of boxing great's rematch, Jones v Bernard Hopkins.
Jones might return to Sydney next month to witness Mundine's bid to make history in his January 11 bout with Rob Medley for the vacant IBO light middleweight world title. He told the Herald before his defeat on Wednesday night that he was trying to arrange for the former NRL star to fight on the undercard.
''If the fight with Hopkins goes ahead, I'm trying to get Choc on the undercard,'' Jones said.
WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm is believed to have been under consideration as a possible opponent for Mundine but the March 13 Jones-Hopkins fight is unlikely to go ahead, with the 40-year-old contemplating retirement as he flew home to Florida yesterday.
Instead, Mundine is focusing on becoming the first boxer to win world titles in three weight classes by moving down through the divisions.
''This is a history-making fight We're talking thousands of fighters, greats and legends, and no one has done this. That's why I want to be the first,'' Mundine said.
''In fact, I want to change my name now. From this day forth I don't want to be known as Anthony 'The Man' Mundine, I want to be known as Anthony 'The Pioneer' Mundine because I want to be the first. I'm in to **** that ain't been done, I'm into **** that has never been done before so I'm The Pioneer from this day forth.''
Mundine will have to diet to make the 69.85-kilogram limit and after failing to do so for his last middleweight bout the 34-year-old admitted he would have to curb the love of chocolates that gave him his nickname as a child.
With the Herald yesterday revealing that Green was considering moving to heavyweight to fight the likes of Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson, Mundine said the possibility of a rematch with the IBO cruiserweight champion was unlikely - although money would have a huge influence.
''I'm fighting at junior middleweight now and my next bout is scheduled at junior middleweight - that's 69.9 kilograms. [But] I'll tell you what, we will make it even. I'll fight at middleweight and he can fight at heavyweight. That might help to even it up,'' Mundine said.
''He knows I've got got his number, he knows I've got his measure, he knows what happened that May night in 2006. People are blessed with their ears, people are blessed with their eyes, people are blessed with their intelligence as far as understanding and at the end of that fight, they had to come up with one conclusion - arse-whipping.
''He ain't even a great notch on my record. I tattooed him. But throw some numbers at me and I'll gladly whip that arse again.''
Told of Mundine's comments, Green's manager, ****** Manolikos, said: ''Danny is a world champion and has just beaten one of the greatest of all time. If we do it, it will be on our terms.''
Mundine replied: ''Danny, you've got to understand, I whipped your arse in the boxing ring and I whipped your arse on the business table. Nothing is going to change the next time.''
The talk of a rematch with Green overshadowed the announcement of Mundine's bout with Medley but the 28-year-old coalminer vowed to add to his impressive record of 27 wins from 29 bouts.
''I don't think he stands a chance against me at junior middleweight. That's my perfect weight,'' said Medley, who rejected suggestions Mundine would be the toughest opponent he had fought.
''No, not really. I fought [South African] Isaac Hlatshwayo, who beat me twice, and he's a better fighter than Anthony,'' he said.
Should Mundine beat Medley, he will earn the rare distinction of having won four world titles in three weight divisions. ''I ain't lost in nearly five years. I'm at the top of my game. Over the next four, five years I am on the top of my game. Believe that

    Read my lips
Anthony Mundine will never fight a top 10 ranked Northern Hemisphere
boxer at Light Middle , Middle or Super Middle.
    He hasn't got the balls.
