http://www.theroar.com.au/2012/03/03/mundine-on-ufc-i-like-it-but-it%E2%80%99s-not-for-me/ Anthony Mundine respects the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) but has no plans to enter the sport like fellow Australian boxer Vic Darchinyan. Mundine said he is not a major fan of UFC but watches it every now and then, nominating Rampage Jackson as one of the MMA fighters he follows. Itd have to be a big fight, he said. I respect their art. Im not a fanatic. UFC rolls into Sydney again tomorrow, with a crowd of around 15,000 expected to attend at Homebush. The main event on the card is a welterweight tussle between Martin Hitman Kampann and Thiago Pitbull Alves, while there will also be the introduction of a flyweight division. Mundine said he isnt interested in competing in UFC in the future, unlike Darchinyan who has publicly stated his desire to fight in UFC this year, and even if he was he couldnt because of the arthritis he suffers in his hip Im more the artist, Mundine said. Boxings my science. But I respect UFC. A lot has been made in recent years of the tussle between boxing and UFC, but Mundine believes when boxing is at its best, pound for pound, you cant match it. UFC cant match it, nothing can, the 36-year old said. When boxing is at its highest points today, thats where its at. Mundine nominated the likes of seven-time world title holder Floyd Mayweather Jr as one at the top, but also believes UFC can be viewed separately to the sweet science. UFC can be judged in a different light, he said. Its more of a technical street fight. Its not as artful as boxing.
In defence of Mundine here, Dana White spoke about Mundine and Green when UFC came to Sydney in 2011. So technically Dana is full of shite saying "Anthony who"
White went on to say he was eager to get Garth a contract with the UFC and showcase his talent to the world. WAR GARTH! He has mentioned it a few times, his father is the national and olyimpic wrestling coach for Armenia so he has a background unlike James Toney Would be interesing now the UFC have established a Flyweight division. Might ruffle some feathers and restore a bit of pride to the boxing world :happy
Someone should tell Choc the following, Boxing is at it's best when boxers place the sport, and what it stands for, ahead of the bank. I'm well aware that boxing is a business today and the rewards must relate to the effort put in, but if $ become the first consideration for all levels of fighter in Aus then I fear for the future of the sport. Ghoc has had the opportunity to showcase the sport in a positive manner, challenge himself at the highest level, along with reaping the rewards since the Green victory, but has instead opted for the Barnham and Bailey route, successfully sucking the sport for every $ possible along with adopting the no risk plan. Choc"s opinions on the sport itself should be printed on paper squares, approx 4inch X 4inch and hung in the smallest room in the house, where the said opinions could be put to good use.
For once Choc and I are in agreement, his legendary clashes against the Argentinian cab industry will never be forgotten in the annals of boxing history!
