Apparently there are accusations that members of the Mundine camp intimidated judges before the Geale fight. http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,25560270-10389,00.html
Wow. Looks like he isn't doing boxing any favors in his own country. One more reason for people to just write it off as corrupt.
hahaha boxing IS corrupt! that's why it takes brutal men to compete and brutal men to run the show! built for the gladiator, defy the odds or your nothing!
Neither did I, but i guess he is a pretty big deal in Australia. This news brings up real questions about the Geale fight, but I haven't seen the fight.
I didn't score it, but wasn't surprised by the decision the way the commentators were going on. I questioned whether the belt had been 'taken', but that isn't much of a criteria I realize. I remember thinking Mundine would be toast against Pavlik.
The vice-prezzie of the IBO sometimes post on here and he basically said its a bit of a beat up...One fan in one round peered over the shoulder of the judge and cried foul..then was told to **** off and did. The paper that has been running with the story is a Newscorp paper...aka Fox News...and is basically a tabloid style of paper. The decision was fair...it was a good, close fight but Mundine was a clear winner IMO. He did not look like a threat to the big names in the division in this fight.
The article suffers from exaggeration (no surprise there), but Mundine is more or less the only boxer that is really well known to mainstream Australians (boxing is tiny here, the average person probably wouldn't know who Manny Pacquaio is). Regardless of his inability on the world stage, he is seen to the unaware public as the centre of Australian boxing, and generates good coin regardless of who he fights, so thats where the influence and power comes from.
