Not sure. Assignments for the undercard will be set by the ANBF at their meeting last Tuesday of the month, his team is doing the card though I believe

Outspoken Sydney boxer Anthony Mundine believes Danny Green’s retirement was no more than a holiday for WA’s former light heavyweight world champion.

Green, who will return to the ring at Challenge Stadium on April 26, is in the gym preparing to take on South Africa’s Anthony van Niekerk, with the longer-term aim of avenging defeat to Mundine.

The Sydney boxer scored a unanimous points win over Green at supermiddleweight (76.2kg) in the harbour city three years ago.

Mundine told The West Australian in an exclusive interview he believed Green’s intention had always been to return to the ring, despite an 11-month absence. “Retirement to me is out of the game for three or four years and then coming back,” Mundine said.

“Most of the big names in the sport only fight once a year, so it was more of a vacation than retirement.

“He’s not fooling me that he was retired. I know it was in the back of his mind that he wanted to come back and try and redeem himself.”

Mundine, who has moved to middleweight (72.6kg) with the intention of unifying the division, fights Daniel Geale next month for the International Boxing Organisation title.

But when he gets round to taking on Green, he will be closer to the light-heavyweight limit of 79.4kg.

Green is expected to have at least two fights before taking on Mundine either late this year or early in 2010.

After sending out ambiguous messages regarding the prospect of a rematch against Green, Mundine made clear his intentions.

He said he would fight Green at any weight and declared his love for Perth and his enthusiasm for a bout in front of Green’s home crowd.

“He’s talking about fighting at light-heavyweight. I don’t have a problem with that,” Mundine said.

“I’ll fight him at any weight, at any time, anywhere. But the revenue and the dividend have to be right.

“I think it’s only right for me to go to Perth. I love Perth. He fought me in Sydney. I’m happy to fight him in Perth and give the people a great spectacle and a great event.

“It will be in his town. It will be at the weight division he wants to fight. I have never fought at light-heavyweight. That tips the scales in his favour, big time. But I know I’m the superior fighter.”

Money is unlikely to be an obstacle to a Mundine-Green rematch given the public interest in the last fight. “We had one of the most memorable moments, not just in boxing but in Australian sport,” Mundine said. “It was huge and this one could be even bigger.”

Though Mundine’s sights are set on snatching middleweight titles from Felix Sturm (World Boxing Association), Kelly Pavlik (World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organisation) and Arthur Abraham (International Boxing Federation), Green is gunning only for revenge.

Having retired as the WBA lightheavyweight champion, Green’s enthusiasm for the fight game has returned. So, too, has his craving to please his army of fans in Perth.

“I know when I walk out at Challenge Stadium the buzz is going to be unbelievable,” Green said of his comeback fight against van Niekerk.

 

.he is mentioning a lot of names Sturm,Pavlik,Abraham over the last few years and recently said Geale will be his last fight in australia but i think this fight is already signed.some here have already said that i think they are right.looks like teke will be waiting a long time for the mans assault on the world boxing scene.

 

I think Green is Mundines insurance policy.

Choc is probably thinking if he gets beat in his next 2 or 3 fights at M/W then he can always make one last pay day with Green. If by some chance Mundine shocks the world and beats Sturm and another top 5 middleweight then he'll defend that title for as long as he can.

Doesnt bother me, fighting Green is a massive step up from Geale

 

You are right on the $$$ IMO Beaver. Danny is definately the insurance policy. Nothing's surer than that the plan is for them to meet again though.

 

Tend to agree.....wont be 2009.....dont think it will be 2010 either.

One would think Mundine wins against Geale....tells everybody hes the best and everybody is ducking him for about 4 months.....takes an easy defence end of 2009.

Lines up a big 4 belt holder for March 2010....if he wins happy days...then Mundine wont fight Green until 2011 as he will have another few fights at MW.

If he gets beaten by one of the big 4 in 2010 then he may take 1 or 2 fights at catchweight before he fights Green end of 2010 at LHW.

A few spanners in the works to the Green fight are as follows;

1.If Green is ranked high coming back in and gets an early title shot/ vacant and wins...this may flush Mundine out quickly and he wont need to fight one of the big 4 at MW.

2. If Geale beats Mundine.

Either way I dont think Mundine quits if he gets beaten again.....as a journeyman he can earn $1m each year with 3 fights
