Jaime Munguia Vs 1990 Super Middleweights Your selections represent the boxers that Munguia would beat.
I like Munguia but not at 168. I think he beats Van Horn and maybe Lucas and Littles but that's it. That 90's group was a bunch of big, physical fighters like Collins, GMAN, Barkley and Brewer that would outslug him. Toney is simply the cream of the crop and a guy that would wipe him out easily.
Littles, Van Horn, and Luca are his best bets at winning. Maybe he can get to Brewer as well. This is my most optimistic take on Munguia vs these guys. Williams and Collins beat him Toney, McClellan, and Barkley stop him, probably brutally Andrey Shkalikov, Jaffa Ballogou, and Merqui Sosa are also going to give Jaime all he can handle
Munguia is 6'1 and easily rehydrates to 185 as a Super middleweight while still looking lean. I don't think going back down to middleweight is good for him considering the weight cut was getting dangerous for him. At what weight would you like to see him at?
Boxrec's has him listed at 6'0 which surprises me because I thought he was much closer to 5'10 but was wrong. I do know he started his career at 140 and just made the move to 168 after spending the majority of the last few years at 154 and 160. We shall see if he has the power to compete at 168 but the fight Saturday didn't do much to convince me especially since Sergey has been a career middleweight and is pretty shop worn. I like him but need to see more of him before I pick him over any former world champs at 168.
Really? Boxrec is a lil fishy sometimes. I could have sworn iv seen several TOTP on him at 6'1. Well as you said Sergiy has been a career middleweight and was hurt in the 10th and went down in the 12th. I didnt like to see Munguia eating all those shots though.
Yeah he has always seemed pretty hittable which doesn't bode well as he moves up in weight. He has never been a one punch ko type of a guy and typically beats guys down with his volume and aggression. Those 90's guys were all big, tough and strong. I just can't see him trading with those guys and coming out ahead. Can you imagine him eating those shot s Saturday from Gman?
Munguia definitely needs to start tucking his chin and learn some side to side movement instead of coming straight forward all the time. With those adjustments and some more experience against fighters like Sergiy im interested to see how far he goes.
The fights with Van Horn, Barkley, and Brewer would be wars for as long as they lasted. He has a pretty good shot to be Van Horn, every Brewer fight was a gunslinger game so he has a shot there. Barkley was up and down at the weight but he should win, I think. He would be the perfect opponent for Toney to put on a showcase performance.
That is one thing about Munguia, he brings it and is willing to put himself in harms way in order to get the knockout. Munguia carries that Mexican style of relentless pressure and always goes for the finish. He recovers pretty quick when he gets dazed but I still dont think he should be taking so many shots. Imo any fighter that is willing to have a wild west shoot out with him he stands a fair chance.
With the names listed, there's a legit possibility he goes 0-9............. Maybe 1-8 and he gets a decision from Eric Lucas
