There’s hardly any boxing on so I’m half tempted to stay up and watch this on Saturday. It’s a good yard stick to see where Munguia is at. The advantages he carried at 154 will be less so at 160 although he’s still a big lad. Fundamentally, I really don’t think he’s all that. He’s too square on, reckless in his defence, and relies too much on his power.

Spike will have plenty of opportunities to land a few bombs, but I’m thinking his own punch resistance has significantly reduced. I think Munguia will see him off in 6 rounds but could be a fun fight. A younger version of Spike would have caused him a lot more problems but this version is done I think.

    What are others thoughts?

Spike gets blitzed but I suspect it'll be entertaining whilst it lasts. No idea where it's being shown so I might have to look out for the morning YouTube upload

God bless the people that do that. They're doing God's work

I think it’s worth pointing out that Spike has fought at 154 in his last 2 fights I think. So this is very much a dipping the toes in the pool kind of step for Munguia.

This is not a titleshot is it? Or did the WBC give Munguia some sort of free title because he's Mexican? Wouldn't surprise me.

Think this will be harder for Munguia as expected, just because he isn't all that.

As dumb as this may sound, I think this will be a mixture of Liam Smith vs Munguia and Spike vs Lemmy, Munguia isn't as hard a hitter as Lemmy but he'll swarm Spike and probably stop him late on.

Check out the thread on the General Forum. Some pretty clear cut opinions on there.

Was only today wondering where you'd gone (and Jürgen), twentyman! Back with us, on a spike fight thread too! :).
Yesterday I spoke to a friend of spikes, who said spike is in great form and we'll up for it. Earning good money too. I've pretty much said it all in the other thread in the general forum.
Basically spike can't win on points. Hogan proved that. So he might as well go for it, and he will. Munguia is bigger, younger fresher etc so a sensible man would have to get on him. He should wear spikes resistance down for a late stoppage, but a spike ok can't be ruled out. Why do you feel spike punch resistance is gone? He takes a great shot. It's his engine that lets him down, stamina wise and he is 35 now. But also Remember Spike is the hardest puncher munguia has faced, and Munguia has a bad defence. Of his big fight opportunity's, this one is by far the most winnable for spike IMO. However Munguia by late stoppage of a gassed out spike would be the sensible man's bet. But it won't be easy for him. Unlike Hogan ( the last Irishman to beat Munguia) Spike wallops really hard.

Tempted to get at the odds , munguia was exposed badly in his fight vs hogan and was a bad robbery , hogan in turn was destroyed in his next fight by charlo which makes me think spike has a chance , 12:1 on betfair, also think joe smith could ko Jesse hart , double pays around 80/1

What on earth is going on here? People heavily overate Spike all the time.

I’ll be impressed if Spike makes the 6th.

The problem with spikes career is he's had no structured build up. No progression fights, steadily building up the level of competition towards title level. He mightve done a lot more if he'd been properly promoted and managed by a big time outfit like match room or Warren. The previous step up fights were too big a step up in one go. This munguia fight is his best chance IMO. Not saying he'll win but his chances of winning are better here than ever before IMO.
