Looks like Mungia and his team have decided to go for the rematch in '25.

How many of you are now picking Surace?

PS. Just re-watched a video of the stoppage and it confirms my original impressions.

No problem with the stoppage but Mungia might have survived the round had the count not stopped at 9.

i think mung gets it back. show that frenchmans hands some respect and stay laser focused on the task. and give him direction going into the fight. train for him specifically.

Had a feeling they would want to avenge that loss. Munguia has a chance but he really needs to tighten that defense and fight more intelligently.

Perhaps Surace might be even more focused and prove that the win wasn’t a fluke. Wouldn’t surprise me if Surace ends up victorious again.

Munguia got lazy and allowed Surace to cut an angle and land a peach of a punch. Couldn’t have been more flush. I don’t think he’ll let it happen again.

    Too late, Munguia .
Canelo has already booked Bruno for his May fight!

If Munguia gets back with Freddie Roach or back with Maestrito Lopez he win, easy. If he stays with Morales, it's a coin flip.

I was actually thinking that we might see a Surace vs M'billi fight in France. Top Rank was starting to hype Munguia vs M'billi and more or less Surace was seen as a tune up for that fight.

With Surace and M'billi being French based fighters, that could be a big fight over there and make a fight against Munguia even bigger for the winner. Probably won't happen but I think Munguia would be wise to rebuild against a really low level guy. Back to back losses against Surace would be the end of his career for sure.

Before someone points it out, yes I know M'billi is Cameroon but almost all of his fights have been in France or French speaking parts of Canada.

Feel for Surace, having to capture lightning in a bottle twice , but then again... What better, bigger paying fight is out there for him?

I can't imagine a non hitter with no standout attributes that had already been dropped in the fight pulling a repeat like that but the way I would chuckle if Munguia lost to him again

That would stop the entire train, ala Helenius/Kownacki

I would likely pick Munguia in a rematch but in all honesty I don't think it was just a fluke punch. Surace boxed well and after the early third round knockdown Surace began to move and counter. Munguia's punch output decreased and his offense looked stifled. Munguia though flawed usually has a potent offense and finishes guys who are hurt. He uncharacteristically let surace off the hook.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a tough fight

I'd be shocked if neither Surace or Canelo chased each other as its life-changing money for Surace and pretty much a guaranteed win for Canelo against someone highly ranked (and fairly so!).

if Surace and Munguia rematched, I think it would be similiar to the AJ V Ruiz rematch with Surace winning a couple of rounds but Munguia playing it safer and tighter this time to get the decision.

I don’t think he can out box the frenchman. Also asking him to become a boxer is a tall order. They need to work on that defense. He has always been easy to hit. Maybe taken one to many. Just like Joyce, using your chin to win fight is never a long term plan.

I agree it is a tall order but I do believe Munguia is defo capable of getting the decision here at least.

However, it is possible that Munguia's punch resistence may have taken a toll these days.

Imo If Munguia wasent going for his signiture liver shot and focused more upstairs he would have got the knockout.

Why is there a rematch clause when Mung wasn't even a world champion and why would you insist on having one for an opponent with the KO% of a frail old lady?

Surace won fair and square in conclusive fashion in Mung's backyard on a deck which was heavily stacked against him. I don't believe Mung has ever fought outside North America so why not rematch Surace over in France?
