so a win over Victor Terrazas wins you a boxer of a year award? that is shockin' Amir khan and david haye did more this year **** even Ricky Burns!!! Munroe hasnt even been active this year (which could be used as an excuse) the BBBofC should be ashamed of themselves this stinks worse then when russia won the right to hold the world cup! :deal
Why do people continue to reward No Marks..? Carl Froch is the boxer of the year in my opinion. Then in second spot........David Haye, fact of the matter is he fought in the biggest fight of the year.......and past decade in british boxing. Swagger & Flare. **** these other No Marks, that are boring.
Sorry but this is more of a "hey you are a nice guy and you tried hard, so here you go" award. The award should be for achievement and producing the goods. Froch and Burns deserve it more. Heck, if Khan whoops Maidana he will have had the best year.
I'm not sure who I'd have given it to, to be honest. Through the voting period Munroe had good wins over Maludrottu and Terrazzas..... Burns is probably equal with the win over Martinez after the best part of a year off. Froch probably has it in the bag already for next year with the win over Abraham. Can't see him failing to beat Glen Johnson.
Just to get the facts straight, the award was decided by public vote through Boxing News so if anyone thinks Munroe was an unworthy winner, the BBofC aren't the disgrace in this scenario. Having the consideration period end half-way through the year is because the award is for the boxer of the 'seasonal' year (i.e. Sep 09-Aug 10) not the calendar year and everyone who voted was made aware of this and what each nominee had achieved in that time period. Burns beating Martinez came AFTER the closing date, as did Froch-Abraham. Khan-Kotelnik came just before the period began. So if Burns had won it would have been by virtue of a points victory over Youssef Al Hamidi and Khan by beating Salita and Malignaggi. Haye beat Valuev and Ruiz in the period so may have got it if the BBBofC panel had picked the winner like every other year. But the public did and Rendall may have mobilised his fanbase a little. He was certainly a popular winner at the Awards lunch.
