This content is protected anyone surprised that munyai lost very badly tonight? and even more shockingly...now word of it is mentioned anywhere. it wasnt that long ago that munyai was atop prospect and even before that was a commonwealther fighting agaisnt martin power. power got totaled in that fight and the ref stopped it (with the dismay of martin) he is a lanky tank, with a high workrate and ginourmus pressure, decent right hand, generous reach and decent skills. and only now do we find out that he cant fight southpaws. missing horribly, throwing a double jab and then a left hook that threw him way of balance when akaba just glided to the right. the guy was totally outboxed and outhustled. and knocked down twice in a career that he had never been dropped previously.
Fighting two weights above what he should be at against a tough kid that looked huge. Taking the fight was a very stupid idea. Munyai had looked good back in Africa and had put up another couple of good wins, he was well on his way to getting a title shot of some sort but that dream is faded now. Feel sorry for the kid.
Thought he wouldn't be as affective when he fought someone closer to his own size and not tiny 8st 6lbs fighters.
He had been looking bad for a while before the loss, basically since he moved up in weight. Other tools seemed to have faded as well mind.
The press seemed to be saying that he was looking lethal back in Africa but that was back down at his more natural weight. He had beaten rated guys.
im a sure this is a perfect example of not knowing how to fight a dancer. akaba used a great jab and move technique in the southpaw stance. maybe it was becuase he was a big guy in a smaller division and that he would run into dancers and boxers becuase his hieght and reach would always be far superior. kinda like corrales in that he had
I didn't think Akaba would win but im not all that surprised. I actually rate Akaba pretty highly since Truscott. He frustrated the hell out of me that fight because he would come out for one round and look superb, then be lazy and do nothing the next round.
I knew it would be tough for him fighting above his natural weight so I wasn't shocked he lost. He was fighting a tough come forward fighter who was built like a brick **** house.
He only weighed 123 last night and that was for a non title fight, just because he's very tall does not mean he's actually that big a fighter . Despite being much taller than Akaba , Akaba was very much the bigger man in there last night and the size difference(bar height) was huge in Akaba's favour . That was pratically a World class Bantamweight, weighing in at Super-Bantamweight, fighting a Commonwealth level Featherweight last night . It's not too surprising he lost . It would take a very very good Bantamweight to beat Akaba .
he is being extremely badly managed in my opinion. wtf is maloney playing at putting him in with featherweights when he apparently is having no trouble at bantamweight. the british promoter thing is not working for munyai or olusogen - they both should see if they can fare better in the states.
