Murat Gassiev targeting Zhang, Hrgovic and Itauma for next fight.

Gassiev at CW was a very good fighter. Injuries, inactivity, or maybe the size difference at HW has exposed his limitations badly. He didn't appear injured against a very limited fighter in Wallin, he appeared clueless. He didn't know how to cut off the ring, he didn't know how to aggressively jab his way in, and he was too slow of foot to do anything but follow.

I also thought Gassiev could do something at HW, but he shows no sense of urgency in the ring. Going 6 rounds with a 44 year old BEYOND SHOT Pulev who had already moved on to weirdo bare knuckle stuff is not good. I wouldn't pick Gassiev over any top 20 operator.

 

Injuries didn't "expose" his weaknesses. They ARE his weakness.

It is ok to lose a fight. I can only repeat: they said he was re-injured, but even if he wasn't, losing to a 6'5" southpaw boxer who did pretty good against Fury isn't the end of things. He's permitted a loss.

He IS doin't something at heavy and because he is WBA regular champ, he now has the avenue to some big fights. Ask yourself, if he is so bad, then why is he having trouble getting these guys to call him back? WBA regular is a guaranteed chance at a championship. And yet, they can't find Itauma....Miller signs to fight Pero instead...

A lot of these guys simply don't want Iron Gassiev. Period.

If you want to write off a 32 year old former unified cruiser who is now officially WBA #1 contender...well...I'm not.

 

Zhang, he's more shot than Gassiev

 

these arguments never work because the activity rate isnt in the same dimension. legit cannot recall the last time a prospect, let alone any fighter fighting 10+ times a year. a better comparison would be time as a pro to fights

 

Hrgovic will absolutely school Gassiev. Gassiev was getting outboxed by Pulev; Hrgovic will box his face off, and nobody is KOing Hrgovic off some random lucky shot.

worst possible opponent for Gassiev. Can’t imagine his team lets that one happen.

 

Serious question, though...have we ever seen Hrgovic really take it to the body? I can't remember. We know he has a great chin, but what about the hook to the body?
