Dorticos didn't pace himself. He truly underestimated how good a defensive fighter Gassiev was. Gassiev said you can land the jab, but you won't land the right hand. Dorticos didn't go to the body and when he did, Gassiev made him pay. Gassiev waited until some of the steam came off of Dorts shots and then started throwing his own hard shots. Gassiev's blocking with the gloves, parrying, movement, mixed with some uppercuts...and looping right hands all slowed Dort down. And the body attack brought his hands down for the hook.

 

Here's the ending, now looking back I think the ref should have stopped it after the 2nd KD.

I would say the difference in volume and stamina is equally notable. Dorticos was in the fight for the first 8 or so on volume alone in spite of having some of the worst punch accuracy and boxing IQ in the sport. He has Paul Williams level of punch accuracy, throw like a mindless zombie, truly atrocious. Usyk had a higher workrate against Briedis than Dorticos today but with a better connect percentage than Gassiev with his low output. Whether the threat of Gassiev's power causes Usyk to throw considerably less is the question. Fun dynamics at play.

It's insane. There is a market begging for quality fights. USTV and WBSS are both leaving money on the table by not coming to terms. I couldn't even find a stream with commentary in English.

 

Scummy Al Heymon blocked Showtime from airing these fights because he hates scummy Richard Shaefer. YT and fightnews had a free stream in English.
