This is going to be a great fight. Potentially a FOTY candidate.

Gassiev is more proven at the top level, but Dorticos should not be underestimated going into this fight. They're both big punches and whoever can land clean first could end the fight.

I tip the fight to Gassiev at 60/40, but I would not be surprised if Dorticos wins.

 

Regardless of whether or not he ever has, I am convinced Gassiev will KO him because of the Edison Miranda fight.

While it may seem contradictory to my finding, he took a lot of clean shots from Miranda (who did pack quite a wallop) - so his chin definitely isn't glass, but the important takeaway here is that Dorticos is really not that difficult to hit. This is further evidenced by him taking so many L's, as houmzz points out in his post above. 51-21 for a Cuban is a terrible rate of success, no matter how tough one's schedule of competition. Plus, when he fought Kudryashov it was clearly a fraught situation where the first man to land big was going to be the one to stay awake. Dorticos is no archetypal slick Cuban. A zombie, halfway-shot version of Pantera managed to pretty effortlessly tag him up (and that was the night I decided that Dorticos was empty hype and just a KO waiting to happen) and Gassiev punches, IMO, harder than Kudryashov and Miranda combined. I'm serious, I don't think people realize just how brutal Gassiev is. (yes a few people went the distance with him without getting dropped early on but as he grows into his man-strength and polishes his technique his power is growing in tremendous proportions - just ask his bruised up sparring partners, including Ola Afolabi who declared him by far the harder puncher he ever felt. Not to mention everyone that has gone the distance with him in the last few years, including the iron-chinned Lebedev, has tasted canvas multiples times in the bargain)

 

Still, for seventy fights selected at random (unless you're implying that houmzz very carefully and deliberately compiled an unflattering list) to have a 70% winning percentage means he wasn't up to snuff with the amateur elites among his countrymen.

 

...and against Miranda, but like I said, the fact that Kalenga/Miranda were even able to land enough clean shots for us to gauge that his chin isn't bone china means he's in a world of trouble. Not everyone is a believer in Gassiev's power (yet) but I think he punches much harder than anyone Dorticos has ever fought (and yes I realize that's saying something)
