I agree, but it's very difficult to do that for 12 full rounds against a grinder who goes to the body. They need to land something hard early to discourage him. It's sort of like Cotto - if you can't hurt him, you aren't outboxing him. He will catch you, he will hurt you.
I can't speak for everyone else, but I said Soto next because I think he's a much better option for Murray than either Ortiz at 140 or the JMM-Katsidis winner. He'll be a lamb to the slaughter if he ever finds himself up against JMM's precise counters (he's made for Dinamita) and I think he'd also be worn down by Katsidis in the latter stages. As for Ortiz, why should Murray give up his ranking at 135 for a shot at **** all against the Tin Man? Soto is the best option for Murray currently and there is also the possibility of an alphabet trinket should Murray win.
I like Murray......a lot. But there are some things I notice about him every fight that make me think he'll struggle against the best. His defence is wide, he takes too many shots down the pipe. Sometimes he looks like he's defending his ears he's so wide. Something else I noticed tonight, is how slow he his to reset his guard after throwing. Hope he can sort these things and succeed at World level :bbb
IMO he should have a warm / tune up fight then fight Mitchell to see whos the best in Britain before he goes up to the world level. He looked a bit ragged and rusty tonight but hes been so inactive it's understandable, and thats the only reason i think he should have a tune up fight first That fight would be a real clash of styles, boxer vs brawler
I think his best chance would be against Katisids, and even then I think Kats would beat him at his own game. I reckon Marquez would do him over quite spectacularly, and I just don't see the logic in moving up to face Ortiz, who, on his day, would be a right handful for anyone at 140.
At this point yes, I'd pick Murray over Diaz. Just cause he's alot fresher and has more hunger. Diaz is one the downside. Prime Diaz would outclass Murray, and I hate Diaz.
you know there was several times in his fight where i thought he looked a bit stunned by some of the punches his chin isnt all what ppl say it is
To be honest at this stage of his career a fight with Mitchell would be the best option . It would be a big fight in the uk with two guys of similiar ability and styles going for it in a very even fight . I wouldnt put Murray anywhere near Katsidis or Marquez . He's got no head movement, no defense and at world level average power. I like watching Murray but i suspect European level will be his limit .
He's not a world class boxer. I didn't even watch him tonight but you just know what you're going to get with him. He simply does not move well enough and thats the bottom line. He picks his punches very well, he works the body very well, offensively he's fine but he's not going to be in any position to be effective against top class boxers. Imagine him against Marquez. All Marquez has to do is stick a jab-right hand straight down the pipe and circle Murray and Murray's going to be flailing at air. When Murray does get near him Marquez can hold him and force him to reset to where he's comfortable or he can look for the big uppercut to hurt Murray.
Murray is an enigma. A guy rated as top 10, yet at the same time, a fight with FNF regulars Lundy, Molina and Kim would be big step up in class.
I don't know what most of you expect from this kid,if he don't move on up he will get criticised, sure he doe's things wrong, lots of fighters do,but he keeps winning.I did watch last night and he is glaringly obvious 'but he said before the fight it would be a tough one but should stop him in the latter rounds, not a bad pick for someone who's only watched him on tape...at least he is not deluded like some fighters who get in the ring and are embarrassing....
I fancy his chances with Molina. I actually think Lundy would be a bis risk even though Molina beat Lundy...Lundy is a fast, awkward puncher who gives Murray stylistic problems although he has a soft centre. I think both them fights would be good ''bridging the gap'' bouts before heading to world level...but really at 30-0 you shouldn't really need them type fights anymore. Although..maybe in long run it may do him good who knows.
