Murray is no "good boy"...

I just hope that Murray hasn't been ruined by GGG. Mainly because I feel Murray deserves a few decent paydays after his ordeal. And, as any subsequent poor showings by Murray will just lead to annoying arguments about GGG's level of competition.

Personally, I go by the "eye-test". GGG just looks a bloody good boxer (though the Compubox stats are hugely impressive: +/- tied with Lara, after Mayweather). I'm inclined to believe that GGG permanently damages his opposition (those horrible body shots), and makes them shadows of their former selves, rather than that everyone he has faced has been wildly over estimated.

That said, GGG is willing to take a punch to deliver a (harder) punch (or two). Given his chin and the power of his opponents that's been a rational tactic so far. But, I do wonder if he would still be capable of boxing more circumspectly if facing someone with enough power to knock him out (i.e. a proper Super-middleweight). He showed more evasion and head movement in his earlier fights and amateur bouts, can he revert to that? Or, has he fallen too much in love with his own power and resilience. It's going to be fun funding out... I just hope he gets the dance partners to prove it either way.

 

I think a fighter like Golovkin is more likely to do psychological damage to Murray than physical. He left the Martinez and Sturm fights feeling robbed, and his confidence was soaring because he could compete with and arguably beat the very best.

Golovkin showed that he couldn't. He couldn't hurt Golovkin, back him up, outbox him, outwit him, or best him in any department. He was dropped and hurt to boot.

Those kind of losses really do damage.

 

speaking of Murray, he hit Triple G low at least 25 times and that moron Luis Pabon only warned him twice. i don't know whose pet dog Pabon is that he still gets to ref big fights after the Klinchko-Povetkin fiasco.

 

it might take a Klitchko left hook to drop Triple G. hard to say. never even seen him bothered much less hurt.

 

Possible. I remember an interview with Hatton when he said that the most horrible experience of his career was the defeat by Mayweather. Pac might have KOd him more rapidly and with more physical damage, but it was the feeling of impotence that he had against Mayweather that deeply wounded him - an extended period of feeling utterly incompetent and useless, rather than a quick, clean punch.
