    speaking of Curtis Stevens, I think he could've been a formidable middleweight but his handlers are a bunch of morons. they should never have let Triple G beat the **** out of him and should never have put him in with slick, quick boxers like N'dam & Tureano Johnson, (although he got lucky and finally caught Johnson).

    I know what you mean. I was no big fan of Murray, but after last night, I can take nothing away from him. He's about as tough as they come. I had to take my hat off to him and might even be a fan, now.

    Actually he was brilliantly handled.

    They milked every bit of his talent possible for money & TV exposure, considering he was exposed many years ago, many times over (Primera/Dirrell/Brinkley).

    That he even got a title shot manufactured that deep into a failed career, having not really improved his technique, still just a raw puncher, was impressive.

    that's my point. they didn't improve his technique or milk it longer against opponents more suitable to him. Triple G destroyed his confidence and then they put him in against people most able to make him look bad.

    Lost every round.
    Took a good boy beating.
    Fighting to survive.

    i'm grateful Murray gave me 11 rounds to watch and enable Triple G to get a lot of work in, but i'm not going to get mushy about it or put him on my christmas card list.

    the jury is still out on whether he's really the #2 middleweight. i hope he isn't.

    I meant to include this description in the OP but got distracted halfway into writing it:

    Yesterday was like a polar bear versus a honey badger.

    Golovkin (the polar bear) is the the division's apex predator and seemed it, but Murray (the honey badger) didn't give a ****.

    The end result was the same as it would be in nature between those animals - the smaller one devoured but lasting a good deal longer than most other critters and putting up a fiercer struggle.

    I tend to agree. The fight probably would have been over in the 4th if Pabon did not stop the round ten seconds early.

    Murray fought hard. YEAH, your supposed to. Like all the dopes who want praise for "Takin' care of their kids"

    rewatching the fight in slow motion. Murray hit Golovkin low EIGHT times in the first two rounds, and the punk had the nerve to whine about Golovkin sticking his head up into Murray's chin when he clinched him.

    Golovkin did hit him low once, after Murray's fourth one.

    May have but didn't - and honestly, the knockdown 6 rounds later was even harder & more authoritative, on a more severely fatigued and damaged Murray.

    Yet he got up from that...and then answered the bell for the eleventh. So that casts a little shadow of doubt on your contention that an extra 10 seconds or so in the 4th would have meant the end then and there...

    Strange viewpoint. How many Golovkin victims have fought as hard as Murray? :huh

    I'd say he went above what has been set as 'the par', in fact well beyond it.

    Yeah, there was no real legitimacy to his butting complaints nor the "illegality" of Golovkin's overhand chopping hooks atop the dome.

    Those quibbles, lame as they may be and much eye-rolling as they may induce, oughtn't detract from the warrior status he earned in the ring, though.

    yeah, those are icing on the cake to me. it's reasonable to infer from Murray's actions in the first two rounds that he didn't really believe in himself, and showed up to cheat. he showed grit in this fight, but he's still just an assaulting, robbing thug.

    Murray is a tough mother ****er. He just doesn't have the offensive firepower to complement his defense and toughness. I noticed in the Martinez fight, that he is a bit crude and primitive offensively. I thought he beat Martinez. He didn't really have enough power to keep Golovkin off of him though.
