I know Murray's risking his British title vs McAllister. But is McAllister still WBU lightweight champ? Will they be fighting for it?

I know few of us really rate that belt, and that TV don't usually support "bogus titles" etc. But a title like that might put the winner higher up in the rankings of the WBA, WBC, IBF & WBO, no? These titles can be useful, can't they.

I remember reading an article reporting McAllister had relinquished both his WBU belts.

Correct, you can't challenge for the British title whilst holding any form of a world title as far as I know. Murray-McAllister is for the British title.

Not really, the British and European titles will get you a higher ranking with the WBC and sometimes the WBA. The European title more or less guarantees a top 10 ranking with the WBC.

The WBU and other bull**** titles don't do much for you ranking wise(unless you're with Frank Warren and you suddenly find yourself being mandatory challenger to the WBO belt).

Yeah, anyway, we've all seen Warren do this with the WBU, then WBO etc.

If a man gives up the WBU title, so he can fight for the British, is it really a "world title"?

No. The move was taken by the BBBoC precisely so that fighters don't hold bogus belts like the WBU or WBF but rather challenge for the British title.

I thought McAllister was going to move up to welterweight so he could become a '3 weight world champion'?

I would say that its Murray who is the cocky ****. Remember his "I will break Ricky Burns in half" quote before he bottled out of the fight?

    I do!

When it comes to being cocksure, Murray wrote the book on it. Hes even got a song dedicated to himself:lol:

Murray is a Hennessy fighter - it would surprise me greatly if Murray was to fight for a inter-alphabetty or bogus world title, as Big Mick likes to keep his men on the proper route.

I don't think he bottled out. More like he outgrew the weight. Ricky Burns is ok - a decent fighter but no one to inspire fear in a good prospect.

Haven't we seen enough fighters messing things up by not being able to make the weight at the last minute, getting sick after weigh ins, or just not performing because they are draining themselves too much.

I mean look at the size of Murray in his previous fight. Lightweight is obviously his proper weight class.

McAllister vs Burns would be great. I would favour Lee though.
