Mitchell has been injured and is to big a name to fight at the York Hall. its a catch 22.

Good decision by Mitchell to not sign.

He needs at least one fight to get over his loss to Katsidis, before jumping in the ring with Murray in a massive UK showdown.

Kevin Mitchell has lost his bottle. The Katsidis fight has ruined him.

He wont amount to much now. Bank it

I view his injury with sceptsism and disagree with the other comment too. He's not a huge ticket seller and fighting at York hall near where he's from shouldn't be scoffed at

If you compare the Katsidis fights with Mitchell and Katsidis......

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwQZEOQBFUk[/ame]

In this one Katsidis comes out pretty calmly for the first couple, and is just having a look at Mitchell. In the 3rd he comes out much more aggressively and the first time Mitchell makes a mistake he's badly hurt on the ropes.... shortly after he's KTFO.

Now the early stages of the Marquez fight...... against a harder punching, better moving, just all round easily superior opponent. He's making attempts to push Marquez back with some success despite being hit harder and more often.

It represents the difference between a world class operator taking a look at a European class fighter before finishing him.... and going pretty much hell for leather against a legend.

I agree with you though Dan, Mitchell is a decent fighter, but nowhere near world class I'm afraid. His best win is over Carl Johanneson who was shown up twice at Euro level...... Katsidis himself has three losses at world level (but was competitive in each of them).

Tibbs is probably doing the right thing by pulling him, but it's nearly a year now.... as you've said Hatton lost the biggest fight of his life, one of the biggest any British fighter has ever been in.... within 12 months had been on one massive bender yet fought two good opponents that were in the top 10 at the time.

Mitchell not a big ticket seller?? His fight with Katsidis was the highest attendence for a UK fight last year.

And why sceptic over the injury. he had surgery?

After the Kats defeat in May Warren had the Mag 7 card in September and the Smith-DeGale card on December. Surely Mitchell should have been on one of those undercards in a confidence building 8-10 rounder?

    Agreed.

When you've been badly shown up in front of a huge audience I'd imagine he'd welcome a little confidence booster in front of a small crowd too.

    That's the bill.

There's plenty of ticket sellers on there, plus there's countless numbers of Aussies in London.

Mitchell isn't too big a name to fight at York Hall. If he really believes that he's a jumped up little ****

    That's rubbish.

The kid is coming off a heavy loss, and a long period of inactivity. Giving him a couple of tune-ups is the sensible thing to do.

Dan, you advocated Hatton's methods. He din't go straight back in at a high level with after Mayweather did he? He stepped down a level, rebuilt his confidence and went again - Mitchell deserves that same opportunity. (Before any ****** tells me I'm comparing Pac and Murray, it's clearly all relative).

Obviously it's not ideal, being out a year and then taking tune ups but you only get one shot at this game and him and his team need to do all they can to give him the best shot of reaching as high a level as possible.

Earlier in the week people were saying how Mitchell was getting thown to the wolves, Warren was cashing in etc..... that's how one-sided this fight is (I pick Murray TKO by the way). Now Mitchells team probably agree with you, you're slating them.

    It's daft.

Mitchells career is more important than one fight against Murray, so taking this fight just because there is a chance it happens now or never is just negligable.

I can only think that Warren is refusing to do anything with Mitchell until he proves that he's 100% committed to the sport. He was pissed off with him after the Katsidis fight and even said then that he didn't know if Mitchell had the focus/commitment to make it at the top level.

Losing to Katsidis is no disgrace, but the manner of the defeat and then the stories of not putting the roadwork in beforehand is hard to defend really. Warren put loads of time in to promote that event aswell. He probably feels like he's had the **** taken out of him.

I just find it hard to believe that Mitchell would have been banging on Franks door, begging him to put him one of those 'MAG 7' shows. If he couldn't be bothered training properly for the biggest fight of his life then there has to be serious question marks over his commitment to boxing.

Mitchell has been out injured though, after an eye operation, he only got the all clear from the doctors last month to fight again.

Yep, Blackout. Although Warren was pissed off with Mitchell over the Kats showing, I'm sure he'd have found a place on an undercard for Mitchell if Mitchell had of pressed him.

From a purely boxing point of view Tibbs is probably right not to take the Murray fight now with Mitchell having been inactive since suffering a bad KO last May but its probably Mitchells fault that those are the circumstances he finds himself in.

    Gaz

He couldnt have pressed for a place on an undercard - he has only recently had the all clear to box again

March/April was the earliest he could have returned to fight
