Thirty-first of January in Moscow. WBA bridgerweight title on the line, second defense of Gadzhimagomedov. Between the amateurs, where he is a two-time AIBA world championships gold medalist and Olympic silver medalist, semi-pros, and pros, the champ has been victorious in one hundred and four contests and lost only three. His challenger, a South African southpaw and twice over cruiserweight world title contender, is coming off a pair of losses at CW and is giving up 5½" of reach but is still a massive step up for the Russian.
Gadzhimagomedov -770 Mchunu +405 There isn't an over/under line yet. The last time Mchunu was stopped was by Oleksandr Usyk in 2016.
I love McHunu but Muslim should get him out of there if he’s to reach the potential he showed as an amateur.
OTOH, what a massive comeback that'd be for the 36 year old if he scores the upset and finally bagged a world title in just his first victory since Tischenko in 2021...and second victory since Lebedev, pre-pandemic.
Since it appears to be non-title, I'll be cheering for Gadhzi, who has more long term high end. Were it a title shot (and why isn't it?) I would cheer for Thabiso as he deserved it against Makabu and I would like to see him get a title. Weird, but there it is.
10 Rounds! Disgraceful. Anyway, go Thabiso! Though I won't be disappointed in any result, as long as it is fair.
