Pretty good scrap, this one. Amazing how much weight Mustapha had to cut in such a short time span. Roy Jones would be stunned. :D

Anyway, it wasn't a bad performance by Eddie at all; infact, I feel like he was easily handling Spinks until the weight draining caught up to him in the later rounds.

    Spinks/Mustapha Muhammad

    Round 1: 9-10
    Round 2: 9-10
    Round 3: 9-10
    Round 4: 10-9
    Round 5: 9-10
    Round 6: 10-9
    Round 7: 9-10
    Round 8: 10-9
    Round 9: 10-9
    Round 10: 10-9
    Round 11: 9-10
    Round 12: 10-8
    Round 13: 10-9
    Round 14: 10-9
    Round 15: 10-9

    144-140 Spinks

I've never seen that damn fight from '81....... I missed it back then, and ESPN never shows it on its classic network....... ARGH! However, Spinks was younger and fresher and more suited at 175 in 1981 than Eddie M. Muhammad was....... Spinks also dropped Muhammad with the jinx late in the fight.......... I'd pop a woody to get a clean copy of this fight on tape..........

I never cared for Eddie M. Muhammad all that much; he was an enigma.... Kinda' like a smaller version of stinky Jimmy Young...... Too many times Muhammad was inconsistant in his approach / attack...... Plus, he had a weird build.... Muhammad looked lean and mean at 175, but he looked porky as a pig at 190 to 201 pounds...... I saw Eddie M. Muhammad fight a few times in the early 80s on ESPN and he was porky looking......

Eddie M. Muhammad lost a lot of respect and hurt his reputation in 1983 when he weighed-in for the Spinks rematch at 177 1/2 pounds, and then refused to shed weight so the fight could go on....... That was a bummer.......

I don't have an exact scorecard, but that seems about right to me. I felt Mustafa controlled a lot of the early rounds and actually made Spinks look bad at times, but Spinks' late round KD and strong finish pulled out the win for him.

9 rounds to 6, plus a knockdown sounds about right.

Woah, new avatar! May I ask who? :D

On topic, yeah, I feel pretty much the same way. Spinks looked awfully flustered by Mustapha's calm and calculated boxing style.

I have no idea actually. It was from a random ad that happened to appear on the screen as I was browsing the web. I can't even remember the site where I found it.

Mustafa was comfortably outboxing Spinks before weight drainage, a badly swollen left eye (probably from an elbow or thumb from memory) and a Spinks that was coming on combined to derail him. Mustafa's was smooth as silk early.
