Calzaghe is retired, so you can replace his name with Dawson or Hopkins. You can also replace Abraham's name with Pavlik's seeing as how Pavlik is the recognized champ at 160 and seeing as Abraham has been fighting nothing but bums at 160 for a little while now. Kessler really isn't on top at 168. If he is, he's only there by default. His recent subpar comp doesn't really help him out either.

He claims that he has nothing else to prove and that nobody is worthy enough to fight him. So he's either retired or he loses his spot due to the fact that he doesn't want to fight anyone.

haha yeah our "next great hw contender" is textbook example.

It seems boxing is encouraged at a younger age over there. Back in the day, the U.S. contenders all had extensive amateur pedigrees. I know some still do...but for the most part U.S. boxing as a whole doesnt. I've heard many trainers being interviewed saying this. So maybe some of these U.S. champions should go into training youngsters or find some other way to encourage the sport over here instead of trying to promote after their fighting days are over.

word, with the exception of adamek and klitschko none of those fighters have really established themselves against the other quality opponents of their division. Calzaghe is obviously a god at smw but hes only beaten one top lhw and abraham has yet to fight anyone besides miranda thats worth even looking at.

p4p means generally nothing and the heavier fighters rarely get into them, unless they are pretty special.

And yea, Pavlik is obviously number 1 at MW. But Abraham would give him a good fight, but Pavlik seems reluctant to let it happen.

Right now Calzaghe still is - but you are right he is leaving.
Not accepting Kessler's dominance? You are delusional.
Pavlik above Abraham? Yeah maybe - but not by a far stretch. AA fighting bums? So Miranda is a bum?

To summon it up: Yes right now Europe has most top fighters in the upper weight class.
