You make it sound like Pavlik is something of a skilled technician! In reality, he has certain attributes that you mentioned in his favour...and I'm not going to sit here and lie about Abraham being the greatest techincal boxer of this generation , but I think he is a smarter and classier fighter than Pavlik, Abraham is very measured in the way he controls and channels his aggression, and has a decent range of punches, whereas Pavlik has a come-forward, throw anything, rabid dog approach which I think Abraham will handle fairly easily - he has a water tight defense and the power to hurt Pavlik everytime he tries to get close.
Get close is the key here. I look for Pavlik to use his range. AA is prone to going back to the ropes. Just where Kelly wants him. Has AA ever fought anyone with the power to split his guard? Pavlik has said in the past he would break a guard down by beating on arms and shoulders and body. He won't tire doing it. He can do the 100 punches a round. He can simply bank rounds until Aurthur HAS to come out and fight or lose a points decision. By then he has sore arms and shoulders.
Way to contradict youself. Calzaghe is "the man' at LHW because he beat Hopkins and is the recognized champ. You also don't think Dawson deserves consideration. However, you believe Abraham deserves consideration over Pavlik because of your own mythical head 2 head analysis; completely ignoring the fact that Pavlik is the recognized champ at 160. By your own logic, Abraham does not deserve consideration. Let's cut the bull**** right now. Calzaghe is retired and has no interest in fighting anyone. Therefore, he's not on top of any weight class. Pavlik is "the man" at MW and therefore is on top of the division. If Abraham wants that spot, he'd better beat Pavlik or hope Pavlik moves up in weight.:deal
Pav vs AA IMO is pretty even. Pav has the size and range where AA has the speed and technique...both are very heavy handed. I think PAV is more heavy handed and AA is more explosive but stylistically this makes for an interesting fight. I think Pav has the upper hand but to me its a toss up. I wouldn't be surprised if either man won by way of KO. But if i HAD to pick I'd pick Kelly by KO....I think the pace and pressure would be the difference.
Everytime he tries to get close? You are missing an important point that MANY people miss when they analyse a fight: Arm Length! Gross reach means ****-all. It's arm length that counts the most. arthur has a big chest and shoulders with pretty short arms even for a guy who is only 5' 10". Pavlik does not have to get close. Arthur does. If AA had a great jab and lots of speed he could get inside and give Kelly fits, but he has neither of those attributes. He can't close the distance. If he tries to go to the body with jabs in the mannner he did with Ikeke, KP will take his freaking head off. Arthur is double tough, but tough ain't enough at this level. A smarter, classier fighter? Go watch Pavlik/Taylor II, and come back here and tell me you honestly believe AA can compete at that level.
If you scroll upwards you will see that I admit to being wrong about Pavlik, he does have a much better claim than Abraham. So quit :| As for Calzaghe being retired. This has no basis in fact, at the moment. He hasn't said he is retired, he certainly hasn't made an announcement, and he is quite likely to fight again - seems to be the popular opinion.
some interesting points from both sides here. i think logically speaking, if you sit down and analyse this from a neutral perspective, you can only arrive at one sensible conclusion, which is that american boxing totally wreaks of stale granny ****.
OR!!! After peeling back the layers a bit more to this arguement we find that it's even more evident that UK boxings wreaks pig vomit with a slight hint of period *****....that is a stench that is hard to ignore.
Is 'granny ****' a universal smell or do different grannies urinate different odours? This is the point that everyone is failing to address!
I'm glad you admitted you were wrong. You still deserved to be called out for such a blatant contradiction, even after you admitted your error.:yep There's no basis? He says he's not even thinking about boxing, and that he has nothing else to prove. Tell me, who the hell is he going to fight? He doesn't do rematches apprantly, and he thinks people like Dawson, Froch, Taylor, and Pavlik aren't worthy enough to share a ring with him. What, is he going to fight Glen Johnson? I don't think so. The man is retired.
And that is contingent upon how much their grandchildren love them. It's bad karma to give your granny Pabst Blue Ribbon if you can afford the upgrade.
