H2H, the best four middleweights of the past four decades.

If they were in a mini-league where they had to fight each other once, who would emerge as the top dog?

The more detailed the answer the better, but all comments welcome! :good

Would that make a huge difference to your answer? Not criticizing, I'm genuinely interested.

Not very detailed Tito, nor much conviction!!

Why do you say Monzon or Hagler rather than Hopkins or Jones in a peak h2h discussion?

I would take Monzon and Hagler to beat Jones. Hagler by KO. Monzon by Decision or maybe a stoppage on Roy's Glass Jaw.

Jones beat Hopkins straight up so I would have to rank them like this if they were to fight once:

    Hagler
    Monzon
    Jones
    Hopkins

I may be biased on Hagler beating Monzon because I went to High School with Hagler's oldest son.

Also, I think an older Hopkins would KO an older Jones like if they fought around 2002 or after.

It would for me. Not a HUGE difference, however.

It would make a clear difference, yes. Over 12 rounds Jones is more likely to dazzle early on and escape the later round onslaught that would await him against Monzon and maybe Hagler. Over 15 he may not be so lucky.

    12 rounds: Jones Jr.
    15 rounds: Monzon

I wanna say Hagler(He's my second favorite fighter ever) But I'd go with Monzon UD.

I would tend to agree with Pea. It's difficult to keep up with Jones over 12, but when the pace slows and its time to go into the trenches I think he'd find life tough with Hagler or Monzon over a longer distance.

I don't fancy Hopkins over Monzon, he doesn't even like that fight for himself. And we can rule him out against Jones, so I would be tempted to forget about Hopkins and think of the other 3.

    Jones.

I honestly cant speak for Monzon because I've never watched his fights, but I think that MW Roy Jones was impossible to beat and the speed and reflexes were impeccable.

Roy Jones the MW would've taken out the B-Hop that destroyed Tito. He already beat him once and would very well do it again. Hagler was a destroyer with much power, but I seriously doubt he would be able to catch Roy with a clean shot. He took out Toney and I honestly feel Toney's skills are better than Hagler's, although Hagler had more to show for his talents. Hagler was built for Roy in the sense that he came in swing wildly without regard for defense against Hearns. I think Roy would've come out on top...He most likely would've tied up Hagler and did some subtle inside work. And controlled the fight with his speed and ring generalship. Hagler was a stalker, but a careless one. His main concern was to nail you with one of his hooks. I don't see Roy getting caught. I see Roy cruising his way to a WIDE UD...or call me stupid for saying possibly even a late stoppage. He had more power in his punches than Leonard did. But yea...before I get caught on ESB at work...Roy would come out on top
