Tough call between Jones Haglar and Monzon,

Jones could pull it off, but I think Haglar would wear him down, the guy was relentless, faster than often giving credit for, and he's got that chin.

Jones IMO would have a better chance against Monzon because of his speed. Not a sure thing but I'd favor Jones slightly here.

Haglar and Monzon would be amazing, two of the toughest guys ever, both skilled, Monzon has the size advantage, Haglar the speed. Pick em'.

I'm not sure what it is, I just feel like Jones wouldn't be as effective as a 15 round fighter, whereas I think Hopkins would be better suited. Just a feeling.

 When I say confident, I mean not that confident at all really! Having only recently seen the Sibson fight for the first time, I now know better than to say with any certainty that anyone could beat prime Hagler at 160 - what a fighter!!

I agree about Jones, for me his best weight was 168, I think he was pretty much untouchable in his brief stay there, you'd have to go back to Ezzard Charles for someone who fought at that weight who may be able to beat RJJ in my opinion.

For me, both Monzon and Hagler would be too strong, too intelligent, and too seasoned for the mw Jones h2h.

You haven't addressed the point regarding which day the weigh in would take place. (Post # 34, this thread).

I think the issue has a direct bearing on what's in your last sentence above.

No offence Cuch, but that sort of thing doesn't really come into my thinking for hypothetical h2hs. If you factor it into your decision-making process then fair enough mate, but I don't and won't. I merely imagine the two men on the best night of their careers at that weight in the ring together, and think of the actual conflict. Other factors which would make a difference in a real fight don't impinge upon my h2h thought process, as I personally find it a bit OTT and pointless, since the fights can't actually happen. Just MO though.

    Fair enough.

It's just that the Jones who campaigned at 'middlewt' was about 8-10 lbs bigger than the Hagler and Monzon who competed at that 'same weight.'

That would point to an advantage in my book.

However, as you point out, these fights are purely hypothetical anyway.

:huh Everyone's talking about 12 or 15 rounds...yet wont address the weigh-in question

I think if you're going to address the rounds, it's equally important to address the weigh-in as well

I'd say Hagler. The final would be Hagler vs. Monzon; I say Monzon decisions Hopkins, Hagler just scrapes a win over Jones (due to his speed and elusiveness at the weight, don't think Hagler could land enough to stop Jones, whom I don't believe has a 'glass jaw')

I'd say Hagler beats Monzon over 15 by just a couple of PTS. There's just something about prime Hagler; I rate him as the best MW of all time. Monzon, tough as Hell AND textbook but Hagler's determination would see him through a 15 rounder against Monzon.

Nah, coz then people vote but don't comment, and it's the discussion which is more interesting than viewing the score.

15 round fighters like hagler and monzon were tough as leather. i think it'd come down to these 2. toss up in the finals.

    Monzon
    Hagler
    Jones
    Hopkins

Though Hopkins could beat Hagler, which would confuse things a bit.
