Freddie Steele before his breastbone injury was almost undefeated for the first ten years of his great career. He beats James Toney because of his terrific hitting, and Steele was a top boxer in a very competitive MW era, alongst Apostoli, Conn, Krieger, Al Hostak, Ken Overlin, Tony Zale, etc. What a strong MW era...

James Toney, due to modern conditioning, nutrition and the internet.

Steele looks instantly impressive on film, some serious power in there.

Would be a very good fight.

Toney UD due to his counterpunching skills;)

I kinda lean towards Steele. I think he is one of the most underated pugs.

Steele's power is highlight worthy, but it's the speed and mobility here that makes the difference. I think that's a bad matchup for Toney's masterful in-the-pocket countering style.

    Steele UD Toney.

I'm gonna take Steele. He was more proven and consistent at middleweight, especially as Bert alluded to, before his breastbone injury. Lord have mercy on Toney if he comes to fight like he did for Tiberi.
