I'd favour Turpin, they were both fighters and punchers, but Randolph was a boxer too, a little more finese than Fullmer. Fullmer at first thought was stronger than Turpin, but was he? Randolph a big middleweight was physically strong aswell, and I don't think Gene was as strong as Cockell was, and Randolph won a superb victory over him. In fact that win was Turpins greatest victory, it was an excellent fight and Randolph gave his finest performance ever in that victory, so yeah I think Randolph edges it out here 7-5, 8-4 kind of decision!
Fullmer, who was stronger and more rugged than Turpin and not as one dimensional as commonly thought, would roughneck a decision over Turpin.
I agree with you Red...... Fullmer´s chin was better....and Turpin´s defense wasn´t good.....I can see a war with the better chin winning........ Fullmer by TKO late......
Yeah Vic, Fullmer wasn't the best of course, but he gets terribly underrated here...his record speaks for itself. He was an extremely tough, unorthodox fighter who had 2 styles, as you know..a plan A and a plan B...."B" of course being that awkwardly effective "boxer" style that he had like the one he used vs Basilio and Fernandez. He would have been too much for Turpin.
