Kalambay runs rings around him. Don't like Eubank against slick boxers like Sumbu and he drops a clear ud.
Well for me, Its Eubank, Sumbu may make it close, helped perhaps by Chris's predilection for staying in cruise mode for long periods, however as he showed in the Benn fight, (And pre watson II Fight) if backed to the wall, would not wilt, but would come back hard, Herol Graham should of beaten Sumbu, but tended to shy away from any spells of Trench warfare, Like him or loath him Chris will hang tough through and "Sticky" spots, and Whilst the Nunn right hand KO was no doubt one of those "öut of the Blue" flukes, Chris did have a big sometimes crude but hurtful right hand to unhinge the careless agressor, so Sumbu may be "Jolted" back to basics if he threatens to get on top, But Sumbu was really a very capable percentage player, he would not go "Äll In" so Chris should be able to Map him and Avoid too many Bumpy Roads for a close but clear Points win. Typical Chris in fact.
Sumbu's feet cause Eubanks all sorts of trouble IMO. He'll find him hard to time, he'll find it hard to stick a jab on him, and hard to get much off at all. Interesting fight, but Eubanks has a punchers chance against, despite the Nunn fight, a pretty durable and most importantly defensively savvy fighter. Kalambay decision.
It was a Nunn left hand. In fact it was the southpaw foot positioning that saw Kalambay in line for that shot
Eubank wasn't mobile enough to take on Kalambay. Kalambay in his prime would've stuck and moved to a unanimous decision.
Flea Man - Thanks for the Correction on the Nunn - Kalamby Punch ! - i have admonished myself severely and resolved to eat more fish !
Kalambay may have been a bit of a coaster with his pure boxing at times, when it may have served him better to have been letting his hands go a bit more and throwing the fine combinations he was capable of, but he didn't lack heart. I can't see Eubank putting him into some Camacho'esque shell if he manages to land some hard punches. Incidentally,Graham himself wasn't let down by a lack of willingness to engage when he fought Kalambay either imo.He put on a lot of pressure in the first fight and was actually criticised by fans and in the media for being too aggressive and supposedly abandoning his usual mobile boxing style. While he fought on the move for good parts of the 2nd fight, it was gruelling and full of exchanges. It wasn't the most representative of fights, with both past their best, but it was the judges and a crooked ref that ultimately denied Graham there, not a lack of effort on his part.He fought his heart out. A massively underrated fight that is.One of the best 12 rounders of the 90s.
i have seen both kalambay vs graham fights and i remember that kalambay clearly beat him in at least 1 of them and was never beaten . some textbook bias here .
