MWT Tourney Final - ROBINSON v MONZON

Though Butcher and I have had our dissagreements, I have to go with the one and true Sugarman. He did say peak 1950-51 version. I can't see Sugar calmly letting anyone outpoint him with his title at stake. This is not Wilfred Benitez we're talking about.

Sugar had the tools and would work the body with endless combinations until he his man going. It would take a tremendous volume of blows but Robinson had seemingly endless stamina. Remember this is the man who five times whipped the raging bull and Henry Armstrong. He beat the best boxers and punchers and even knew how to cope with dirty fighters using illegal tactics.

Seriously...you're right about that...I'd say Robinson's peak was before that 6th battle with LaMotta as well....If I were to hazzard a guess, I would say before the Jimmy Doyle fight, That would have been the best Robinson. The Robinson that fought 'St. Valentine's Massacre' had seen already many hard years of fighting.
I'll still take that Robinson though.....but I'll grant you, it's close. very close.
