Tell him not to emulate anyone. Tell him to listen to his coach, learn the basics and develop a style all to his own.

I hate when people want to box like so and so, your not that person, fight the way you know how to fight and work on what you can't do well.

It's ok to watch and admire other boxers but to try and copy them is only stunting your own personal growth as a boxer.

Probably a boxer that has good fundamentals so he doesn't emulate someone and pick up bad habits. I'd go with a boxer that uses the most basic combo well, the Jab strait. Earlier Kessler comes to mind, but not his recent fights( he's using hooks alot more). Maybe look for a boxer that is knows for having a good defense to teach him to keep his hands up. Also look for one that uses his feet to keep a good range. Ali has always been known for his footwork. So my votes would be:

    Earlier Kessler for fundamentals,
    Ali for footwork
    Tyson for slipping punches
Arthur Abraham for handplacement for defense.

Try and avoid looking at unorthodox fighters like Calzaghe, Roy Jones or Toney, they get away with what they due to to shear skills, experience and reflexes.

Ricardo Lopez would be my choice, although he should really watch as many fighters as he can and go with the style that best matches his talents/flaws.

Lopez is textbook though; perfectly thrown punches, combinations, technique and a tight defence.
