Its been a pretty lackluster year when it comes to competitive close matchups and possible fight of the year candidates. We got a few more months to go but my 2 favorite fights this year have been: Froch vs. Kessler- a great matchup that was fairly scored except for one judge who had it wide, I had kessler winning by one round. Perez vs. Mares- def a great fight that hit the nail on the head when it came to scoring, I couldn't see giving the win to either it was just too damn close. Great call from the judges, can't wait to see a rematch. Although I have enjoyed other fights they have mostly been lopsided: Dirrell vs. Abraham, Khan vs Malinaggi, Mayweather vs Mosley, Pacquiao vs. Clottey. What are your guys fav fights from this year?
Not in terms of "fight of the year", but my favorite fights have been: Segura KO8 Calderon, Mayweather UD12 Mosley, Lopez TKO2 Concepcion, Montiel TKO4 Hasegawa, and Cloud UD12 Johnson.
Pavlik vs. Martinez was the only one that really caught my imagination so far. Mayweather was too dominant over Mosley after the second round for that to really catch fire. Then he scurried off to a hole somewhere and quacked. Pac's been fighting in-house Arum bums. Dawson-Pascal was pretty good. Froch-Kessler was good. Dirrell-Abraham was good in parts. The finish left it a bit ragged, though. I'm hoping Williams-Martinez; JMM-Katsidis and Khan-Maidana will sort it out, though. Oh, yeah: Pong vs. Koki was pretty decent, too.
Many very good fights indeed Williams - Martinez and Segura - Calderon for me. Many other very good fights. Gonzalez - Segura will be a great fight as well. Next year hopefully
Pavlik v Martinez. Plodder Pavlik was pwned and exposed. Maravilla lacerated him in front of a global audience of millions, much to the chagrin of the disgracefully biased HBO commentating crew. :deal Kessler v Froch - Kess dug deep to pull out a great victory over undefeated Froch, despite being past it.:deal Burns v Martinez - Burns showed amazing heart and boxing skills to take the title from the undefeated Martinez, despite being knocked down in the first round, and despite being feather-fisted.:deal Chisora v Sexton - Was a good Heavyweight scrap with lots of clean punching. Chisora looks good.:deal
The HBO crew was a shame that night. Basically saying Martinez is only a good athlete but not so good of a boxer. The guy is now P4P one of the best and he was moving up against a very strong and big opponent (178pounds). And Steward saying over and over that Pavlik wasd doing good.. Daaaamn!!
Pavlik vs Martinez no doubt The lead up to this fight was great because the matchup was so dynamic The fight itself was interesting, great to see Martinez pick up his lead again and destroy Kelly Pavlik
I think the two best fights have been; Burns - Martinez Segura - Calderon Both these fights were pleasant surprises because I honestly didn't expect either one to be a classic.
