My question about Fitzsimmons is, do you think Fitzsimmons treated the middleweight division of that time like a great middleweight boxer-puncher would have treated them?

Well the Non Pareil was reckoned to be past prime and ailing, plus he was under 150lbs for their fight, Fitz was only 150 I believe.

.I don't see many decent scalps at 160lbs on Ruby Robert's resume.I think he took care of business pretty well though. Creedon,Hll and Choynski are respectable.

Why does this Mendoza guy worship Cossack fighters:huh

GGG is not more accomplished than Kelly Pavlik. How is he? Who did he beat better than prime Jermain Taylor?

If we Glovkin'd Mayweather's resume , it would look something like this.

    Vivian Harris
    Ali Funika
    Vyacheslav Senchenko
    Paul MaCloskey
    Miguel Ángel González
    Leonard Bundoo

Those are the calibre of fighters Glovkin has on his resume.

Would Floyd be top 5 of all time by beating guys like that:rofl:oops:

Too early for Triple G in a top 10. He does pass the "eye" test. It's also obvious to non-biased posters the guy is avoided like the plague. It's Liston in the middleweight division. He is not going to have a long prime since he's already in his early/mid 30's. So I think he will rate higher on h2h mythical matches than on actual accomplishment within the division. For me if he destroys the winner of Canelo/Cotto ( and I would expect him too) and then takes Andy Lee's belt (if he gets past BJS) who I think is a quality battle tested middle, then I think top 10-15 would be very fair. With movement up the ladder from there.

GGG would destroy Pavlik and yes he is already more accomplished that Pavlik. Pavlik's best wins are over Taylor, and its anyone's guess who had more trouble out of the ring between Pavlik and Taylor.

Hopkins schooled Pavlik, and Martinez defeated him as well. Martinez by the way wanted no part of GGG!

I view Mayweather as a top 10 ATG at welter.

How do you know he's not going to have a long prime. Early 30's combined with no major ring wars or injuries in modern times usually equates for a long prime.

I think GGG ( Age 33 ) has at least 4 more prime years left in him, which should equate to 9-12 more fights.

    Absolute gibberish.

The is no proof whatsoever that GGG would destroy Pavlik. 3G never fought a well schooled , tall , powerful and rangy boxer like Pavlik in his career.

333 has feasted on small C levellers with tiny arms and feather fists.

His best win was stopped by past prime Rubio.

Pavlik shut out and destroyed a prime Rubio when he himself was past prime.

GGG vs Pavlik is 50/50 fight. He hasn't proved himself better h2h and in accomplishments . Thats reality

    No chit Sherlock .

So would all the other top ranking middle weights. Canelo and Cotto are blown up welters , not middle weights. GGG against both is a sanctioned slaughter , especially Cotto.

Only fanboi would want to watch that cos real fans have no interest in such mismatches.

There's a reason all the other MWs are chasing after Cotto- Dignity.

50/50? You are blowing smoke as usual. Pavlik doesn't have the chin or defense to last.

By the way, GGG was 345-5 as an amateur and beat a some notable pro's. KO over Froch, I think. You just don't get that type of record without being a master boxer.

In appears you have expanded your player hating ways. First it was Wlad. Now GGG? Upper weight boxing must be tough for you to watch!

GGG's am record is as good as tits on a bull.

Matt Korobov was 300-12 as an amateur.

Guess what? He got leathered in 6 rounds by Andy Lee. A tall rangy powerful hitter.

Pavlik was tall and was an excellent boxer from range. His reach was longer than Glovkins and i can see that game changer of a right hand landing clean on him.

Until you tell me who Glovkin beat that matches up to Pavlik , its a 50/50 fight and thats the way its going to stay.

I don't hate GGG. He appears to be a master boxer. Key word appears. He hasn't the opponents to fortify that claim.

He does have skills Wlad never came close to ever having.

Korbov middle without a lot of power. He was skilled and quick but clearly lacks the durability of Golovin.

If you think Lee is all that, a wager can be arranged if he fights GGG.

Thanks, McVey. I do think the quality of opposition makes a boxers greatness more knowable. As Thomists like to say, to understand somethings nature consider its powers, to understand its powers consider how it operates, to understand its operations consider its objects (i.e., what it operates upon or what operates upon it).
My further question is, take who ever you consider #1 middle -- if he had come along in Fitzsimmons time, would he then be less great (for lack of scalps)?

What durability?? You keep claiming he has the best chin in MW history and this great durability, but who has beaten on him and who has checked his chin?

Plenty of fans have interest especially if it's Canelo. Seems like you're just a hater. If they possess the middleweight title they are middleweights if they feel Triple G is too strong for them they can move back down and vacate. Simple.
