Nah, it´s not only about the number of fights and longvity but that counts in too. And when I have two fighters with comparable resumes, I give the edge too the fighter with the better longvity. Also I think you missed the part where I said "who fought more HoFers and beat more ranked fighters?" Langford was just the example to clarify my point.
It's not bad. Robinson and Armstrong should be in any top 5, Duran should feature in the top 10 aswell, so you are right on that front. Greb should be a bit higher, his resume is too deep to leave him out of the top 4. Leonard, Ali, Whitaker and Moore are there or their abouts, though all 4 should be a bit lower. Roy Jones and Julio Cesar Chavez are again guys who are around that level but shouldn't make any top 10 imo. Mine: 1 Sam Langford 2 Harry Greb 3 Ray Robinson 4 Henry Armstrong 5 Roberto Duran 6 Ezzard Charles 7 Benny Leonard 8 Muhammad Ali 9 Mickey Walker 10 Bob Fitzsimmons
Thanks man. Very similar to yours is it not? Although I seem to remember you had Pep and Moore in your top 10. I know we both rate Mickey Walker very highly though.
Speaking of TV, I wish half of the names Ive seen on this thread so far actually made it onto TV, then we would know for sure if they truly deserved to be as high up on some of these lists. :thumbsup
throw out ray leonard and replace him with benny leonard and you should be fine. Pernell doesnt belong there but Roy Jones does. to Chavez-i say no way. a far better choice would be Hagler. More balls and better skills
I've seen worse. I always change mine around like daily...but here goes 1. Sugar Ray Robinson 2. Sam Langford 3. Henry Armstrong 4. Harry Greb 5. Ezzard Charles 6. Muhammad Ali 7. Roberto Duran 8. Willie Pep 9. Barbados Joe Walcott 10. Bob Fitzsimmons
Not bad at all, a bit diffrent from mine but hey its all about opinions, would definetly look at trying to put langford and charles in though, here's mine 1. Sugar ray robinson 2. Henry Armstrong 3. Harry Greb 4. Sam Langford 5. Roberto Duran 6. Ezzard Charles 7. Muhammed Ali 8. Sugar Ray Leonard 9. Mickey Walker 10. Gene Tunney
i can't believe some of these guys dont want me putting whitikar in there...instead they want me to put others who they think should be in there just cause they fought 300 times ... that dosn't mean squat in terms of substance...
I can't find one post in this thread where someone advocates placing somebody above Whitaker because "they fought 300 times".
My list personally has nothing to do with the number of times they fought, but the fact that a lot of those guys like Langford, Walker etc are smaller guys who have suceeded throughout the weight classes, knocking out much bigger guys. But longetivity does have to count for something.
top 5 is sound RJJ shouldnt be their chavez and no joe louis! i guess you could make a case 4 whitikar
I would probably have Whitaker between 15 and 20 anyway, so it isn't completely absurd It's pretty hard to justify Jones that high in anything but a h2h sense. There isn't enough depth by a long way and perhaps only 1 guy that would get near a top 50 Chavez fought a lot of duffs it has to be said. The actual quality wins are not top 10 ATG material
