As with any list there are other names I would like to add but ten seems the best place to stop. Comments are welcome as are other lists. There seems to be a small but firm amount of boxing fans who place Jeffries at one. Ali and Louis are, of course, the majority 1's and 2's... But Jeffries was thought of equally highly until several decades ago...
Good List! Here is mine 1. Corrie Sanders 2. Joe Louis 3. Muhammad Ali 4. Sonny Liston 5. Rocky Marciano 6. Mike Tyson 7. Larry Holmes 8. George Foreman 9. Jack Johnson 10. Wladimir Klitschko
Yeah, I guess I'm a little more old school than most. I've done a fairly exhaustive bit of research on Jeffries and he keeps coming up #1 in my book.
1) Joe Louis 2)Rocky Marciano 3)Ali 4)Jack Dempsey 5)George Foreman 6)Lennox Lewis 7)Joe Frazier 8)Jersey Joe Walcott 9)Jim Jeffries 10)Mike Tyson 11)Evander Holyfield 12) Ezzard Charles 13)Jack Johnson 14) Gene Tunney 15)Larry Holmes
The exact order of my list isn't set in stone, but usually looks something like this: 1. Muhammad Ali 2. Joe Louis 3. Rocky Marciano 4. Larry Holmes 5. Mike Tyson 6. Lennox Lewis 7. George Foreman 8. Joe Frazier 9. Evander Holyfield 10. Riddick Bowe 11. Sonny Liston 12. Floyd Patterson 13. Jack Johnson 14. James Jeffries 15. Ezzard Charles 16 Joe Walcott 17. Jack Dempsey 18. Harry Wills 19. Wladimir Klitschko 20. Ken Norton 21. Chris Byrd 22. Tim Witherspoon 23. Ingemar Johanson 24. Max Schmeling 25. Mike Weaver After that it gets literally impossible to determine who comes next, and also there were plenty of non-title holders who could have squeezed into a top 50 spot. I would also like to point out, that the rating I just gave, are not written in concrete, and tend to change depending on how I'm feeling on a given day, but I generally feel that the 25 men I listed, belong in that grouping. The order is subject to opinion though.
Tier1: Louis, Ali Tier2: Marciano Tier3: Jeffries, Johnson, Holmes, Lewis Tier4: Wills, Liston, Frazier, Foreman Tier5: Dempsey, Schmeling, Tyson, Holyfield Tier6: Corbett, Langford, Charles, Walcott, Patterson
Magoo I like the list its interesting Couple Points...... Why did you leave off Corrie Sanders? who the hell beats him h2h? He is a freak of nature! and I like how you put my man riddick bowe in the top 10, but to have him over liston? I have never seen liston and patterson rated so closesly to one another lol.......just curious where is zora folley, eddie machen, C williams if u have patterson so high since he ducked these men? About Walcott vs Patterson, wut is ur criteria for patterson at 12? cause I think Walcott deserves a spot at 12 because against the best fighters he fought patterson EASILY got beaten in one sided fights by ATGs liston and ali. against the best fighters walcott fought, walcott scored 3 knockdowns and outboxed ATGs louis and marciano. when you compare there wins, walcott has the edge (Charles 2x, Ray 2x, Johnson, Bivins, Murray, Maxim 2x, Baksi, Hoff, Sheppard 2x, Gomez) vs patterson( Moore, Johannson 2x, Jackson 2x, Chuvalo, Bonavena, Cooper) Chris Bryd at 21 is awfully high considering he was pretty mediocre, just a blown up lightheavyweight with limited tools. He does have a couple nice wins, but some embarrasing performances too, and I think defensive boxers like jimmy young, archie moore, tim witherspoon, were much better more well rounded and better resumes. Wlad........dont u think 19 is a little too high? who has he beaten? the 3 best heavyweights out there today Potvekin, Chagaev, Valuev wlad hasnt beaten any one of those guys. He also has 2 embarrasing stoppage losses to unrated guys, and a 2 round knockout loss to one of the greatest of all time(which is understandable)...
scuze me, How come you left off Corrie Sanders? He knocked out this man in 2 rounds!! This content is protected
Why is SuzieQ posting under two different names in the same thread? Regardless its good to see Sanders get the credit he deserves.
