Tyson still had power, yes. But power and durability were the only things he had left, Ali had durability as well and most importantly more motivation later in his career than Tyson who was in it simply for the money (although Ali showed up in nonperfect shape sometimes)

Tyson was only an early round fighter at that point, and didn't have the stamina/will to win like the younger one. Lewis is arguably a top 5 HW ATG so losing to him when you are VERY faded shouldn't crush your ranking.

Also, Tyson did not lose in his legacy fights, that's ridiculous. Spinks-Tyson was probably Tysons biggest fight, and he finished him off in 91 seconds. Had Spinks won people would be using this fight as an example of Tyson losing his legacy fights, but since Tyson won it gets conveniently forgotten. Simply because Tyson lost doesn't mean the fights were his "legacy fights."

I would have thought that there were too many diferences between their careers to make that judgment.

Personaly I think that Jeffries resume was as good as you can get right up to the point where he retired in his prime (perhaps before it) to grow alfafa.

the records he set are as impresive as Tysons even to this day.

True, and the same with the Holyfield fight. A lot of people seem to forget that Holyfield was a 22-1 underdog and pretty much seen as just another quick knockout, but anything from a legacy fight.

The Douglas fight is exactly the same, only more extreme.

Tyson was so highly regarded that every time he lost, they automatically became "legacy" fights to most.

Now there's a different perspective mate. Interesting, but i do wonder where Holyfield is in the context.

i don't know what my top ten heavy-weight list is,but there wouldn't be a white one in it.
jeffries? come on he fought a 100 odd years ago against (usually)middleweights.do you not think man has improved since then?
marciano.huge heart but too small physically
the best heavy, either ali, or lewis.

Jeffries is just outside my top 10, Wills too. I have both above Foreman and Dempsey.

Marciano belongs in the top 10, at least legacy-wise he does. I have him half way up the list infact when all factors are taken into consideration. I don't think he'd go unbeaten against the greats head-to-head, I can see most of top 10 beating him for eg. Many of them wouldn't find it that easy, though. For his size/weight he achieved a tremendous amount.

Louis and Ali in whatever orde rthe best two, no doubt. As much as I rate Lennox the highest he could conveivably be is 3rd. I have him 4th.

This list is pretty much based on who I think would win the highest percentage of matches at their peaks against the best opponents in history. I do not factor legacy whatsoever. To make it simpler I'll only include champions. My list is always open to change, so feel free to criticize.

    1. Lewis
    2. Tyson
    3. Holmes
    4. Vlad Klitschko
    5. Vitali Klitschko
    6. Bowe
    7. Ali
    8. Holyfield
    9. Liston
    10. Foreman

No Tyson or Liston? Fair enough it's all bout the opinion, but certainly I'd put both there and above Foreman and especially Dempsey.

Liston is top 6 in my book, higher than that head-to-head.
