#1 You are 100% correct there was no adjustment DLH had a pretty good idea of that Mayweather style working with Sr for years so he had a good idea what to do, There was no adjustment they waited for Oscar to get tired, Roger kept tellin Floyd hes getting tire hes gettin tired, and Merchant I remember this said if their only game plan was to wait for Oscar to tire out they need to think of something else what if that never comes.... Still Floyd barely won that fight single point SD on the official cards Floyd was given a gift. #2 I dont think the straight left is the only key southpaws have that right hook but IMO that right uppercut can do damage, especially if Ortiz lets that shot go when Floyds trying to push Ortiz off with the elbow clean openin there, Plus in the Corley and Judah fights the left hook not straight left but hook caught Floyd alot especially in that corley fight.....
Judah in his prime is arguably a better southpaw than this current version of Ortiz...Judah had the speed to catch Mayweather off balance, Ortiz doesn't have anything close to Judah's speed...One could also argue that Judah had more power than Ortiz...That being said both Ortiz and Judah are mentally fragile... Mayweather by late T/KO...
Ortiz isn't a jabber, which is why he's dangerous. Dlh never used his jab effectively against guys who could box. Dlhs jab was effective against guys who couldn't box, Vargas, Tito, but he wasn't effective against Shane or Quartey for a full 12 rounds. He tried against Floyd at a higher weight Floyd was used to fighting at, but Dlh was never a true 154 lb fighter, and you knew he would eventually stop using the jab because he's never used it for 12 rounds against a good boxer at any weight HD fought at. They said Floyd didn't adjust to Dlhs jab. Bull****! Why did Dlh abandon the jab again? Ortiz is coming in trying to bomb Floyd out from round 1 on. He might throw an occasional jab, but he wants to get inside.
Good post & thats the way I see it... Mayweather is just far to good & smart a boxer to lose to Ortiz, or even be pushed to the limit by Ortiz... lets get this done & dusted then on to FMJ/Pac next.
Judah also lost every major fight he has been in, Judah fought a much more active Mayweather, and a much younger Mayweather. Judah still was able to KD Floyd Judah also gasses out doesnt have a high output so Judah is irrelevant
Ortiz can punch and he has a good variety of power shots. He can throw straights, hooks and his sneaky uppercuts with power. Bad thing is Floyd does not bend forward or just rush in like Berto and Peterson. Ortiz could mix his uppercut in his combo every time b/c of this. Floyd's high guard leaves him open to the body a little and Ortiz can time a good shot down the middle or a right hook around the guard. I expect Floyd to lead with his right hand and counter with the jab. When Ortiz gets froggy and jumps in on him Floyd will tie him up or get in some good body shots. Floyd is going to catch Ortiz with some beautiful counter left hooks and uppercuts. Ortiz is open as hell when he goes on offense b/c he knows he can hurt you. I think either Floyd puts on a Corrales type masterclass or he is in for a tough Hatton type fight but he gets hit a lot more. Depending on his legs. Floyd has deceptive reach as seen in the Mosley fight. Floyd was tagging him from long range as if he was a tall fighter.(main reason why he beats punkiao)
Judah also was arguably a stylistic nightmare for PBF had the ability to beat PBF to the punch, good jab natural and a counter-puncher to boot. That's what makes PBF's win over Zab impressive he beat a guy who was faster than him walked him down and beat him up.
Judah has been walked down and beat up several times in his career. Although I agree with you that was a good win for Floyd.
Nothing but it does have something to do with the fact that your trying to upsell Judah as if Judah is a better fighter than Ortiz we dont know that yet cus Ortiz is still young in the game but so far Ortiz has a better column of wins than Judah does
Yeah but styles make fights. Zab had the styles advantage in the fight. PBF couldn't just rely on speed to beat Zab he was outgunned there he had to do it with skill.
This seems like a fair assessment. Ortiz is too easy to hit for a technician like PBF, they're just two different classes of fighter. Ortiz is an excellent young fighter with serious power, and I could see him maybe clipping Floyd and scoring a flash KD in this fight, but for the most part Floyd will just control him and outland him to a UD. Still, Ortiz's heart, stamina and output should make it a pretty exciting fight at times, and all round it'll be an enjoyable night. Looking forward to it.
I agree with everything you said, but I think it should be noted that Ortiz was getting hit by Peterson when he was lunging from a distance. He hurt him and got impatient. Against Berto he fought a better pressure fight throwing in range or on the inside. Also it depends on what Floyd does. If he stands in front of him Ortiz might not have to close the distance like in the Peterson fight. I think Ortiz has a chance if he can fight a pressure fight like he did against Berto, but I don't think Floyd will let him close the distance. It's going to be an ugly fight with Floyd holding a lot.
Judah was able to catch Mayweather because of speed, something Ortiz lacks...Ortiz is essentially a one handed figher...Floyd knows he just has to avoid the right hand...Ortiz's best chance to win this fight is to bull rush Floyd early before he adapts to Victor's style...Hatton caught Floyd off balance by bull rushing him in the first round of their encounter...Imo Ortiz has about 2 rounds to get him out of there, after that I expect a Floyd-Hatton style beatdown...Ortiz is wide open for the straight right hand down the pipe, just as Hatton was...
