my assessment of Froch vs Taylor

I like what Manny Steward said about Jermain Taylor.
"If he keeps it to ABC, he'll be one of the hardest men to beat at 160lbs in the history of boxing". But, it shall be noted that Taylor has a bad tendency of not keeping it simple, he gets drawn in to fighting his opponents fights, and if that's the case against Froch it will be a grueling war.

And that's where his character will be tested, if he still got what it takes to be a champion, if he still got that hunger he will pull out the victory I am sure.

 

I think them heavy hands of Froch will come into play in this fight, Taylor wont last i go with Froch knockout, Taylor will have to have a excellent fight to win this one, he needs to get his dancing shoes on.

 

I like both of these guys. Have seen about the same of both except Taylor at a higher level. Froch is a little green when it comes to experience but no more so than Pavlik was when Taylor boxed him the first time around. Both have a few footwork issues and one has awful defence (Froch). However, what Froch lacks in defence, he makes up for with chin and ability to take a punch. Taylor isn't likely to stop Froch in my opinion given the number of fights that he's gone the distance in. Taylor had good power at MW but a big SMW like Froch isn't getting KO'd given that he's never been on the floor and he tends to have his feet planted more often than not.

The big thing for me is confidence. Taylor's still on a down since the KO to Pavlik - whatever he says. His confidence is knocked and knows that he can fold like a deck of cards when he runs out of steam.

Froch has a serious dig and Taylor's not as elusive as Pascal was. Froch's power combined with momentum makes me think that a Froch stoppage anywhere from 8-12 rounds is my prediction. I think there will be times where Froch gets outboxed early on and could possibly be behind on the cards when the fight ends.

Good take. I think Froch will KO Taylor in the middle rounds. I think it will be a clean KO, Taylor is susceptible to right hands.

 

Whether or not Froch has stamina issues as written above, he still throws hard punches that can **** Taylor up. At some point, he'll have Taylor in all sorts of trouble... I don't think Taylor will fancy it after that.

 

I agree, but Taylor's character was tested rather thoroughly in Pavlik II. He's got some backbone. More than many. Offhand, Taylor showed greater mettle and sharpness in his instant rematch, than did Roy Jones Jr, Vernon Forrest, Juan Diaz, Miguel Cotto, Mikkel Kessler, Shane Mosley, and Michael Katsidis, among others, offhand. Taylor looked more confident in his body and in his actions than any of those fighters in his rematch with Pavlik, and virtually none of the guys I mentioned were in the ring with the same opponent who had previously beaten them by brutal knockout, sans Vernon. Taylor genuinely looked better than he had in the previous fight. Point in fact, he didn't just look better - he was better.

You're absolutely right on Taylor over complicating things and losing focus. Indeed. Although, not just under any circumstances. Taylor can be exploited by an opponent who keeps walking him down on high output. Ouma did it, Wright did it, Pavlik did it. Combine that with the mental cracks, and you can potentially break Taylor - or you could - that could have changed entirely. As I've suggested; if you look closely, you'll notice that Taylor is already back to keeping it simple again.

I think it's pretty clear that high volume pressure is never going to be Taylor's favorite. He's like a distant cousin of the modern incarnate cowardly lion version of Roy Jones. Not nearly as bad of a case, but a relative. He hates the heat. Again though, you have to put the right physical stuff behind making Jermain Taylor crack up, and Froch doesn't seem to have the tools or the tendencies to get the job done. Will and ambition alone is not going to beat Taylor. Froch will let Taylor breathe, he'll let him rest. A certain specific form of steady dissection beats Taylor, and Froch is too much like Taylor to beat Taylor.

 

If he doesn't fancy it, it's basically going to spell retirement for him, not to mention that his legacy would be left in tatters.

I am a huge Taylor fan, and I hope he pulls through tomorrow, he's a great person who deserves this.

Taylor does not have a glass jaw. He may have his scary moments but Froch does not put punches together in a precision way like Pavlik nor does he even throw STRAIGHT punches that will land often. I am only worried about Froch working the body early. If Taylor can defend against that and keep out of range than its a easy night. Taylor dont even have to worry about the head. Taylor does not get hit with stupid punches often.
