CANADIAN AMATEUR BOXING - PAST and PRESENT http://bzelley-canadianamateurboxing.blogspot.com/ 2009 to 2011, with 59 stories 2009 - 23 stories such as: .The Maritime Boxing, .Alberta Boxing - Then and Now, .What Is Boxing, .Vancouver Island Amateur Boxing. .Training Centre and fade to black. The Training Centre story is about the BC Boxing Training Centre that was in Burnaby, BC. In the eighties, it would be the site of the 1984 Junior Nationals and the OlympIc Box-offs, and a training site for the 1984 and 1988 Canadian Olymnpic Boxing Teams of which a member of both teams was Lennox Lewis. But, it was also the site of many tournaments from bronze gloves to golden gloves, from club shows to AGM gatherings. 2010 and 2011 would have a variety of stories such as the one in 2011 titled: Canadian Amateur Boxing Clubs
CANADIAN AMATEUR BOXING http://bwzboxing.blogspot.com/ A close look at Canadian boxing 1980 to 1989 March 2010, it starts with a inside look at the 1994 Commonwealthj Games in Victoria, BC, Canada. For planning purposes, it all began in 1989 with the formation of the Boxing Committee which would be part of the Greater Victoria Commonwealth Games' Sports Committee. The four folks to begin the journey were: Hassan Sunderani, Brian Zelley, Mike Sartori and Glynn Jones. The first step in the planning process would be to reach out to the community for potential volunteers. This would all take place in 1990 but the real boxing action would not begin until the test event in 1993 and some of the boxers in the test matches would also be on Canada's Commonwealth Games Boxing Team and the rest is history. MAY 2011, NOTHING LASTS, FADE TO BLACK. This is about an end of one boxing journey in January 1986. It would be the last issue that I was editor of the BC AMATEUR BOXING NEWS for all intent and purposes it was the end of 23 years of my involvement in amateur boxing in British Columbia, and I thought it was all over until the call to be part of the Boxing Committee came along. Between February 1986 and early 1989, the bright lights faded to black, but that was the sport of boxing.
ONE YEAR and ANOTHER BOXING REVIVAL: 1974 GREATER VICTORIA http://zelleybuzz.livejournal.com/933.html :good:happy There was no master plan to revive boxing in Nanaimo in 1971, and be part of the team to revive boxing in Greater Victoria in 1974, but in some ways they were all stepping stones leading to 1984. Looking back the year 1964 was a starting point and 1984 was and ending point, so 1974 was on a symbolic basis the middle of theroad. But, 1984 was not the real end, just the end of one journey. But, the eventsleading to 1994 would be interesting but a great big challenge.

Hey Brian, are you training any boxers in Victoria or working at any boxing gyms? If not, do you plan to get back into the coaching scene?
i was going to get back into coaching at one of two clubs in Victoria. One dropped boxing and is primarily promoting MMA and the other moved location and I haven't been in touch with the coach since last April or so. If I did likely wouldn't be a full time coach just a part timer. We will see what happens. However, there is no secret to my style of coaching, it is working on all the basics to ensure excellence and then take it one step at a time.:happy
