My On The Ropes co-host Nick Powers got to train with Jeff Mayweather a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering what people think he needs to do to improve on to be a better boxer?

well I think the 200lb weight class would be a good weight class for him to fight at....hopefully he keeps he training up and continues to get better in th gym.

Damn, I can';t watch the video here for some reason. Jeff is a good trainer though, so I'm sure he'd be more than qualified to point anything out. Although in the amateurs the weight class is 201 and 201+. And there are some big mofos at those weights.

What I am saying is he would be alot more fluid I think if he came down and he can he has room to work with.... and if he does keep at it in the gym he will come down

Uhmmm, not to dis all of us here, because we're all great..but wouldn't it have been better to ask Jeff May weather what he needed to do to improve? I mean he was right there and all...

Anyhow, since you did ask,the only glaring "flaw" I saw was when he jabbed low on the heavy bag, he did so by just, uh... jabbing low. I was always taught to sort of drop down with the legs to hit low, keeping the jab straight to protect the face more.

And yeah, he should cut back on the cookies.

Hardy har har, let's point and tell Nick he's overweight, **** YOU GUYS!

Haha, I'm well aware that my diet needs to improve, and contrary to what some of you may think, I'm not exactly "out of shape", because I train pretty hard usually, I just eat like an absolute slob, that's my problem. I hadn't done mitt work for almost a year in that vid, let alone doing one with a Mayweather.

I appreciate the feedback though guys, keep it coming.

Without nit picking I think you look good in terms of technique and skill. If I'm going to nit pick then here or there you could have kept your hand up or chin down etc

My best advice would be to lose weight and a by product of this would be increased stamina, better balance, more co-ordination, increased speed etc etc

Keep it up. You are working with Mayweather. Lucky man.

Very Mayweather style. Esp with the arm punching... I cant connect the training method with a fairly exposed chin to how a 'Mayweather' actually fights in the ring. The two seem so different.

From what I saw he looks like he needs to turn into his hooks and uppercuts more. chin seemed a bit up in the air aswell (although that might of been where the camera angle was?)

Good high gaurd, but he better be ready to protect that body though.

It's obviously hard to tell how good a boxer is until you see them actually fight. Some guys look like they own the Gym when they train but when they fight a switch just goes off for them mentally and they can never fight to their true potential. The opposite can also happen for fighters who look terrible in training!

  13. Not to bad, I think he needs to drop down to Crusierweight and work a little more at turning his body into his punches and also bring his hands up quicler after he throws, but overall not bad and its great the he is working with people like Jeff Mayweather so if he keeps it up he will surly improve.

I'm sure J. Mayweather will take care of him, but I think:
    1. he needs to tuck in his chin
    2. needs to make the punches snap out better from his torso and legs
    3. needs to tuck up that shoulder with each punch

Can't see his footwork that well but it looked okay I guess.

  15. Yeah man your chin is wide out there. esp when jabbing to the body

I love that sneeky right body shot you got there(on the bag). It'd be a killer to look out for, im gunna practice something like that.
