First off I don't care if the guy is a 5 or 8 weight class world champion. This is about right now not their careers. If was about career than Jones and Hopkins would be ranked top 5. This is a what have they done recently list. This is also not a who would beat who list. 1. Sergio Martinez. I don't expect him to stay at the top of this list for long. If Mayweather and Pacquiao either fight each other or at least take some risk I'm mostly referring to Pacquiao hear. They will over take him. There are also some very good boxers at 140. If they face each other espicialy the winners of Khan/Maidana and Bradley/Alexander. We may have a new claim to the #1 spot. Martinez is a very good boxer who has had an outstanding 12 months. Losing a close decision to Paul Williams, beating Kelly Pavlik and stopping Williams in a rematch. 2. Floyd Mayweather Jr. When it comes to what a boxer can do in a boxing ring there is no one better these days. I don't think it is very close. His only weekness as far as his resume goes is his inactivity. He has only one fight in the past 12 months. A domanting win over than #3 P4P Shane Mosley. Mayweather's place in history is safe, but his ranking as a curent boxer is at a crossroad. We probbly wont know what is next if anything till after his hearing in January. 3. Manny Pacquio. Like Mayweather his place in history is safe. However Like Mayweather based on who he has been fighting he is not deserving of the top spot. Cotto, Clottey and Margarito are his last three fights. Non of them are anything that special. There is reason to believe that one of those guys wins were not on the up and up. Compare his last three to Martinez's last three and Mayweather's last three. Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez and his resume dose not add up to theirs. 4. Juan Manuel Marquez. Outside of his three fights with Mayweather 0-1 and Pacquiao 0-1-1. Marquez has been as good as anyone . Plenty of people fell that he beat Pacquiao at least once in their two bouts. 5. Andre Ward. I don't think there is any question about his talent and versatility. He has a good resume. Had the super six worked out as planed he would have a better one Jermain Taylor > Allen Green and Andre Direll > Sakio Bika. However had he beat Taylor and Direll. I don't think he ranks hhigher than this. 6. Lucian Bute. I think he's better than Ward but not being a part of the super six hurts him or any one else at 168 that is not in it. The good news is that he recently left HBO for Showtime and boxers seem to be droping out of the S6 like flies. One way or another I think we see Ward/Bute soon. 7. Jean Pascal. Like Martinez I don't think he is hear for long. I think Bernard Hopkins is going to be too good for him, and I think his win over Chad Dawson was a one in a million win. He deserves the high profile fight with Hopkins but I would pick Dawson to win a rematch. 8. Wiadimir Klitchko. If this was the top 10 most exciting boxers he would not be on the list. He is however a very good boxer who is beating good opposition by wide margans. 9. Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins even at age 45 is still one of the sports most skilled and clever boxers. He's on the list for his win over Pavlik. However he is not ranked higher because his most recent wins are over Enrique Ornelas who is a decent middleweight in a light heavyweight match up and Roy Jones Jr. Who was comming off a first round ko loss. He should beat Passcal. An impressive win will put him back with the very best. 10. I'm leaving this spot open. There are a few guys who could be hear. I don't think anyone else deserves right now to be ratted as a pound for pound boxer. I'm not saying that everyone else sucks. In fact I fell that there are quite a few boxers who are on the verge of being on this list but just arn't there right now. They are either prospects or guys who are as good as anyone on the list but recently lost.
here is a big **** you!!! You 4 moderators are the worst moderators of any site that I've posted on which is why I'm leaving this site. You allow the word "****** and nigg" to be used all of the time, and while these same posters get away with it daily, you ban other posters who say the slightest thing about people not black on this site. I don't blame the site creator for picking moderators for the site. I blame the moderators who think that they are the ****in site creators who can pick and choose which racist sound bite that they want left for others to read. **** you moderators because you do a shitty job of enforcing racism on this site. You felt the need to erase my thread on Floyd, Hop, the Hood and PAc where I've never called a poster anything that I wasn't called yet allow the use of the words "******, nigg," etc to be used here daily huh...ok lol... I can fix that lol...If '******, Nigg' is allowed to be said then fine. Let me say the **** that I want to say when I'm called a '****** or nigg' and see if you'll let me get away with what I've said.. The "N" word doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that posters that I know were banned for using doing the same **** towards posters who are not black-in retaliation at that. The moderators think that I care about posting on this site. **** all 4 of you... Don't bother sending me a message saying I'm banned because I don't give a **** about your sorry asses, and what you have to say. I'll come back in a year or two when new moderators are in place, and if I'm not allowed back for calling out you 4 shithead moderators then so be it. I'll go over to Boxing Scene where I've been for a while and post there. At Boxing Scene...you are banned for ANY racism if reported. The site is a good site, but it needs new moderators who give a **** what is being said here. You let the same old bigots here post what they want day in and day out while I have to beat around the bush because you sorry asses are waiting for me to say something wrong so you can ban me and tell your friends I banned Nallege lol... I'll be at ***********. To the moderators in place right now...**** you and, peace out **** heads... Many of you posters will be happy that I've left, but I'm happier because at Boxing Scene, they go crazy for PAc and Floyd here, but they don't get away with using the "n" word and banning posters who talk about races other than blacks. I saw posters get banned for using ****** and nig at Boxing Scene. Like the profesional fighter that I was...I live life getting by on my guts alone, and my gut instinct is that we have a few bigoted moderators who let **** slide, and I ain't with dat. **** the 4 of you!
A lot of people will have a problem with this list, but it's your opinion. Just I would add Juan Manuel Lopaz to the 10 spot
Your are right it is my opinion and I present it as nothing but that. I have no problem with anyone not agreeing with me. As for Juan Manuel Lopez. I think he has a bright future. He is biulding up a very good resume. He was one of those guys that i considered for the 10 spot.
:huh What dose this have to do with this thread? If you got an issue with the mods than email or something. Please don't air your dirty landurry on my thread.
I will compare Martinez and Pac's last 3 then: Margarito is a Jr middle who lost to an old man in shane mosley. Kelly pavlik looses to an old hopkins. I make these wins equal. Martinez knocks out the "feared" Paul williams. Pac stops once again a bigger oponent in Cotto. I give this one slightly to martinez since Williams was prolly the more game and less damaged than cotto. Martinez losses to Williams in a UD while Pac Ktfo Hatton. Pac wins this one by a huge margin. And if you wnat to count the draw with Cintron then pac still leads by alot. So with these I have pac slightly ahead Martinez since Martinez has an L in the books in his last 3 fights.
you are saying not resume but the recent activity, then you judge Mayweather over PAc because his win over Hatton in 2007? ... how recent that is comparing to PAC' wins when he beat 8 opponents in the same time when Floyd beat 3? As Hopkins ... his win over Pavlik is hardly recent so you are giving him p4p credit for baring Jones jr corpse this year?
It's your opinion, but how does Martinez just come out of nowhere and take the number one spot from Pac on basically two fights? If Pavlik had beaten Martinez and knocked out Williams garauntee you no-one would have him number one. Realistically Martinez has a solidified himself in the top 3-5 p4p bracket. If this is about the now, then why you bringing up Mayweather's last 3 fights? Hatton was 3 years ago. I don't see how he can overtake Pac aswell. Forget about titles, UDs over JMM with a 15-20lb size advantage, and Mosley does not beat destroying bigger opponents Hatton (KO), Cotto (KO), Clottey (UD), Margarito (UD) in the same time.
