Roman Gonzalez, Robert Guerrero, Mares, Mijares, Cazares, Nishioka, John, Kessler and Nkosinathi Joyi could all be up for consideration too I think. Certainly fighters just outside it anyways.
I can't really see a reason for anyone omitting segura. I'd also like to think that anyone including wlad would also include pong.
Anyone including Cotto ahead of Segura or Pong doesn't really have a leg to stand on as I see it. Cotto is a quality fighter, but his record over the last 3 years is not even remotely p4p top 10 standard.
1. Pacquiao 2. Mayweather 3. Martinez 4. Donaire 5. JM Marquez 6. W Klitschko 7. Bradley 8. Ward 9. Hopkins 10. And someone from the aforementioned group of fighters. I don't think Montiel should be eradicated from the discussion either just on the basis of losing to an upper echelon Pound for Pound talent.
Its a good list with good reasoning behind it. I personally would not have Bradley in my top 20 let alone top 10. The guy has had far too much praise for beating an old Witter and a now Hype job in Alexander, he also wont fight Khan. I would have Froch in my top 10 along with Hopkins. Froch purely on resume and solid wins and Hopkins for his longivity and skills. 1-Manny Pac 2-Floyd (only in list as he has an upcoming Bout) 3-Martinez 4-JMM 5-Donaire 6-Hopkins 7-Froch 8-Wlad Klit 9-Vitali Klit 10-Cotto
:yep ****, forgot Cunningham, him too. Pong's had one good win in what, 8, 9 fights? And for my money Iron Boy was past his best for a while, I'm more impressed by Joyi than Segura. Dare I say it, Joyi's arguably top 5 going solely on ability.
I'm enjoying reading these responses. I very much disagree with Cotto being included, but found Dannyboy's reasoning pretty funny. Good thread, many valid p-o-v's to be found. :good
Solid list and as usual the evidence to back it. Agree with for pretty much the most part. 1. Manny Pacquiao - Goes without saying of course, while I've stated there are fighters out there I'd have rather him face than some of his more recent opposition, it doesn't take anything away from the fact that he has one of the most impressive resumes in the world including a mega-victory over Miguel Cotto and impressive almost devastating wins over Clottey, Margarito and Mosley. 2. Juan Manuel Marquez - :yikes How can I have him here? It wasn't that long ago that he was almost squashed by Floyd Mayweather. I honestly do not hold that loss against him and I commend him to the highest level for taking that fight and seeing it through till the end. His extremely close loss to Manny Pacquiao says a lot about the level he is on and his run at LW backs that up in my opinion. 3. Sergio Martinez - As Popkins says, hes on the hottest run in sport. I had him beating Williams and Cintron, two very good wins at the time. Tops it off with marvellous wins over Pavlik, a destruction of Williams and a clinical execution of Dzinziruk. 4. Nonito Donaire - Without a doubt the most talented south of 135. Inactive for far too long and fights against nobodies when he actually does fight, they mean nothing when he pulverises the likes of Darchinyan and Montiel with ease. There are good fights around for him at the minute that if he takes them could see him rest at no. 2. Hes certainly capable. 5. Wladimir Klitschko - It seems like a century ago when he was getting humbled by the likes of Brewster and Sanders, compared to the Klitschko today who is handing out beatings to the likes of Chambers and Peter. Clearly the best fighter in what was looking like a resurgent heavyweight division, Wladimir underlined his dominance by showing that no resurgent of competition would take place in the Wladimir era by crushing Chagaev and humbling the giant slayer David Haye. That win moved him above... 6. Timothy Bradley - Yes, he may not possess any great qualities, he may look like a ninja turtle but Timothy Bradley is the man at 140 and has been for a number of years. He may have embarrassed himself by passing up the challenge of Amir Khan, but his record makes his name a dead cert in the top 10. Ever since picking up the title against Witter he has faced a series of tough underrated opposition, most recently being (the more overrated to be honest) Devon Alexander. Crap fight maybe, but a clear Bradley win. 7. Giovanni Segura - May or may not belong here for some people, but facts are facts, he was the first person to defeat the highly talented and previously dominant Ivan Calderon. Beating a man who should have been on every P4P top 10 list not once but twice, and by way of stoppage makes you worthy of inclusion in my opinion. Only loss avenged. What else do you want in a fighter? 8. Pongsaklek Wonjongkam - Consistency...what else do you want? Only lost once since 1996 as Popkins duly states with many a defence of his WBC title. Not a brilliant resume by any stretch by there are some names in there worthy of his inclusion. 9. Andre Ward - Scheduled to fight the divisions number two in Carl Froch for the Super Six championship, Ward has come from being the junior contestant to the best in his division right now. Amassing a rather impressive resume with clear, clear wins over the likes of Kessler, Green, Bika and most recently Arthur Abraham. 10. Yuriorkis Gamboa - Was a genuinely hard decsion on who to place here at number 10. Carl Froch, Steve Cunningham, Bernard Hopkins, Vitali Klitschko and Toshiaki Nishioka all got some consideration for this spot. Gamboa sealed it though with just how quick he has been brought along and by how hes basically dominated all competition thus far, putting much of it to the canvas. The Salido win becomes that much bigger with his win over Juan Manuel Lopez, as does the Mtagwa win too. Then if you consider just how he crushed Solis and defeated the good Barros, he probably does deserve this spot...today at least. Also that is correct. Marquez vs Pacquiao will be the first P4P 1 vs P4P 2 since...de la Hoya-Trinidad?
margarito loss - the more i think about this, the more i think that it was a good performance from cotto. he was fighting peak margarito (an extremely tough fight for anybody) in what was a pretty even fight. not only this but mayorga was fighting with illegal handwraps which is an absoloute disgrace to boxing. the fact that cotto could last so long in an even fight against a cheat with a huge advantage is certainly no reason to mark cotto down in a p4p list. margarito should have been banned for life. jennings win - routine victory to check that margarito's cheating hadn't damaged him for good. clottey victory - clottey is a very good name for any fighter to have on they're victory resume, a very tough fighter who's only real loss prior to cotto was a close fight v margarito. i scored this fight for cotto as did the judges. whats more, cotto showed the hallmarks of a real champion in this display fighting in adversity - bad cut adapting during a fight - a change of tactics to purely box mid fight. this was a very good and under-rated win for cotto imo pacquiao loss - can you mark someone down for losing to pacquiao. firstly, you have to give any man respect for having the balls to step in the ring and fight manny at a catch weight. the 1st 4 rounds of this fight were amongst the best i've ever seen until manny ran away with it. pacquiao is a freak of nature, i don't mark cotto down for this fight. win v foreman - another move up in weight, giving cotto his 3rd world title at different weights. not a great opponent but a great acomplishment non the less. win v mayorga - certainly not peak mayorga and not certainly not his peak weight either but we all know no one gets it easy versus mayorga.
WTF is the matter with you? You cant debate boxing at all. Headbanger has asked you questions on your amusing P4P ratings and you hide like a dirty little field mouse amongst a house full of hungry cats. Grow some balls Popkins. Im starting to believe you are not a boxing fan at all, but more like a little coward who pretends
atschatschatsch This disgusting ducking has got to stop Popkins. Grow some and answer the questions This content is protected
Luf, you are often a very good poster but you do like to make attacks from time to time against me, trying to jump on the band wagon :nono. You have to know by now that I never troll. Im attacked because my posts bring shocking truths that terrify the fragile minded. My P4P list is being constructed as we type. I look at the full picture of fighters and give an amazing analysis when all the facts are present :bbb
