My dreamfight: Prime Jerry Quarry vs Prime George Foreman!

I rank George highly but like many fighters, even the greats, he was inconsistent and had holes in his game. I think people are severely over-rating George's consistency and underrating Quarry's abilities. KO'ing Foster, Shavers and Lyle attests to a certain durability and a set of whiskers. Oh, but I'm white.

 

Write off Quarry at your peril. Anyway which peak of Foreman are we talking?

 

Prime Quarry was a tough fighter to beat, but he was still beatable. Prime Foreman was a irresistable force with unbelievable power. It would be a great fight, but George would probably bust JQ up. Quarry would still be in the fight, though. Yes, people underrate Quarry because he never won a title, but the HW division was so deep back then. There is no shame in not getting a title. He was still one of the best of his time.

I saw Quarry vs. Lyle yesterday's night. Not only Quarry did not KO Lyle , which boxrec may be enough to tell you , the fight was much closer than the scorecards . Quarry won a deserved decision , but not a huge one for me.

 

There's been a lot of talk regarding these two. As soon as it took Quarry to get involved in a slugfest,Foreman would stop him. The slugfest would start after the second or third round.

Foreman slaughters Quarry. Quarry's face wouldn't hold up and his defense would not either. If Quarry thought Norton, Frazier, and Chuvalo hit hard, oh boy would he be in for a surprise when Foreman's long arms collided with his skull and torso.

 

I am tempted to post a new thread of "Quarry v. Shavers" just to see how many folks would pick Shavers.

 

Quarry has a live chance, but he was so inconsistent.

He could go toe to toe with Shavers, but in his next fight against Joe Alexander was badly hurt and dropped in the first round before rallying.

Had this occured in 73-74 it would have been very interesting. I think Foreman has some horrible moments and probably even gets stunned a few times, however I think his pressuring powerful body attack and heavy measuring jab seperates him from a green Ron Lyle and would be the difference in this fight. I say Quarry gets stopped on cuts or other injuries in the mid rounds. Saying Jerry gets raped though is just stupid..nobody easily has there way with him, Foreman or otherwise.
