Thank you. This absolutism regarding these hypothetical match-ups when two excellent fighters are involved wreaks of the worst fanboy anti-intellectualism.

If a highly skilled, talented 200 pound fighter can withstand the bombs of Foster, Shavers and Lyle, it is conceivable he could beat Foreman, given that foreman was not the archetype of durability or consistency. Would I put my money on it? No. But I would not be shocked were it the outcome.

    This was interesting!
Many here claims that Quarry has no chance against Foreman.
Makes me wonder if they ever saw a fight with Jerry at all.....

Quarry could beat Foreman if he is in shape and sticks to a disciplined fight and doesn't get too macho.
Foreman was pretty good at imposing his will though.

    An interesting match-up.

I wouldn't write off Quarry, but I also wouldn't favor him either.. Foreman was a much better fighter in 1973-1974 than Earnie Shavers or Ron Lyle at that point.. Unlike Shavers, he had a pretty sturdy chin, could nail a guy with both hands, and knew how to tie a man up if he was on top of him... Quarry would not win the lottery by scoring a first round stoppage against Foreman the way he did against Earnie, and I have a hard time seeing him outbox George over many rounds to get a decision... Fact is, he's going to have to take a lot of punishment in order to benefit from Foreman's late round problems, and I just don't think that he can withstand the pounding for very long... If George got careless, he might walk into a few of those lethal counter punches, but I doubt that it would mean the death of him...

Foreman by TKO inside of 5..

Quarry could possibly have a chance against a prime foreman due to Foremans lack of technique.Like it was stated earlier , Quarry did well against sluggers, Lyle, Shavers.Although Foreman had the one punch capability.Quarry does not have a chance against the older version of George who was wise and seasoned and used his jab alot more often. I just watched Quarry v Ali 1 again and was reminded of what a different class Ali wasin compared toQuarry, and this was after the layoff for Ali.Ali made Jerry look like an amateur.Ali was landing 5 to 6 shots for Jerry's one dimensional attempts at left hooks. Ali was peppering Jerry with the job that led to an early stoppage.
But Ali was the complete different fighter than Foreman but Foreman seemed to fair a bit better against Ali in his rope a dope bludgering.
I think Foreman Quarry is an interesting matchup that could go either way.

Styles make fights. Quarry had the style to beat Foreman. Quick hands, power in either hand, consumate counter puncher, took a great punch and he would be confident fighting against another slow powerful big puncher with limited bxoing skills and no stamina. Fear of an opponent is very real. Norton was petrified of Foreman but that would not be the same with Quarry.
Quarry handled bigger, more powerful but slower heavies like Shavers, Lyle, Spencer and Mac Foster with no trouble. He literally shutout a prime Lyle, the same Lyle that bounced Foreman off the canvas like a yo-yo.
Peralta gave a younger Foreman fits and he was never in the league with Quarry. I bet against the younger Foreman twice because of what I saw in the Peralta fights, and that was with Ali and Jimmy Young.
Quarry had the skill to avoid Foreman's wide punches and Geroge's jab was just little more than measuring stick for his bombs. THAT would be suicide against a guy like Quarry. Foreman would have never ran out in the first round and tried to muscle Quarry. Right from the start Foreman knew he would have to be careful and right away there would be no intimadation factot. Forget the Chuvalo fight, he was beating the stuffing out of George and missed the count after that knockdown. No one there thought Quarry was in trouble. Against Norton he was already shot although he was Norton's age. Very few that saw Norton and Quarrry in their primes would pick Norton. Quarry was a tough smart cookie. He came at the wrong time. Larry Holmes said Quarry would have eaten Tyson's lunch. Perhaps. If you let Tyson know you were there to win, he became very normal. Bullies don't like to get hit. Quarry was a professional that took as good as he gave. Witness the first Frazier fight and his coming off the canvas against Patterson.
Quarry was a helluva fighter that came along when two men, Ali and Frazier were in their primes. Two men that had the style to beat Quarry. Frazier never gave anyone time to counter punch and no one ever countered Ali.
Foreman was a better boxer in old age but the old Foreman would have never come back in the ring if the talent of the 60's and early 70's were out there.

Very nice. Even George admits he avoided Quarry. It is on record that George Foreman admitted that Jerry Quarry was the only man he intentionally avoided.

    How true!

Jerry Quarry was probably the best non-champion heavyweight in history.
