I like both fighters so Im just going to tell it straight.

    Assessment of Antonio Margarito:
People see Margarito as a threat because of his size, strength and punch output. He brings no "fireworks" to the table. He is a consistent, tough as nails guy who outworks his opponents into submission or to a UD12. Margarito is huge for a welterweight, between fights he is 170 lbs. and come fight night he'd have a 15 pound or more weight "advantage" over Mayweather. He can be a bit sloppy at times but because of his relentless style he will get somethings done and rough Mayweather up as long as it lasts. What he has to do is land at a consistent clip, keep the fight on the inside and against the ropes where Mayweather cant exploit his footwork and defense.

    Assessment of Floyd Mayweather:
Mayweather is one of the rare fighters that combines technical brilliance and physical gifts. His counterpunching and defense in the best in the game. His strength is underrated as well as his power. What makes him great is his ability to adapt and improvise to get a win the best way he can. He always comes in tip top shape and will elect to box from the outside and go to the body when the fight gets close. He is a great infighter, and people would expect Margo just to run over him but Mayweather is every bit as slippery upclose as he is from the outside. Mayweather is the most accurate puncher in the sport and gets hit less than anyone as well. Boxing is about scoring points and Mayweather will definitely score. Mayweather always performed well against taller opponents....Ndo, Corrales, Chicanto Hernandez, and in earlier fights

    The Winner:
I have to go with Mayweather. He is a better boxer than anyone Margarito has faced which is a style that troubles him as well as movement, For a pressure fighter to be effective they need a stationary Target, and Mayweather wont be there to be hit, and will dip slide andd counter and get out of range before the slow handed Margarito can reset. Because of Margo's toughness and relentlessness it will make tthe fight intriguing. The fight will look alot more competitive than it really is because Mayweather will give ground to box, score, and counterpunch. Mayweather has the stamina to deal with pressure fighters. He has done it before. For people who bring up Castillo.....Castillo was a better all-around fighter than Margarito who is just bigger. Castillo was never sloppy, used educated pressure, used a jab and was far less easy to hit as Margo. Mayweather UD12

Why you felt it important to make another thread is beyond me.

Anyways Margarito wins and probably by knockout ala Roger-JCC.

You dont have to agree with it....I said assessment of why and how...not a single sentence. A professioanl fight has layers. I'd like to discuss this with you guys I havent been on the forum in months. I just dont feel its fair to either guys fans to just say Mayweather would easily beat Margo or Vise versa with out discussing the fight thoroughly.

Tony pressures Mayweather even harder than he did Cotto, forcing Floyd to run like he's never run before.
    Tony wins this fight.

Completely agreed. The ref would probably end up stopping it due to Mayweather constantly turning his back on Margarito, the ref, the ring, the apron, the crowd and finally the gate.

you cant commpare Mayweather to Cotto two different animals. Cotto fought outside his element, whereas Mayweather knows every opponent thinks they can just run through him because he is more a pure boxer. He is more prepared to jab, box, counter and move, than a methodical fighter like Cotto. I know you realize this. Margo landed only 30 percent of his punches against just a decent pure boxer in Cotto so I'd imagine him landing at or a lil below a 20 % clip. Effective pressure wins fights not just pressure alone. Swinging and missing doesnt score points.

Could you explain why you feel this way, even though Mayweather has only had two fighters ever be competitive with him in 39 fights??? Cotto outboxed him before gassing out. You dont think Mayweather who is more skilled and has better stamina wont do better.....You guys are really biased man. Never seen so many people love to hate a guy, since Roy Jones was at his best.

I'd say Mayweather would do enough to get the decision. I could see the fight being similar to the first 6 rounds of the Cotto fight, except Mayweather would be slicker and get hit less, and last better in the latter rounds with his solid stamina, avoiding the bigger shots and doing enough to get the decision.

Everyone outboxes Margarito until the pace of the fight gets to them, if not Margarito's strength.

Everyone keeps hinging their "PBF Beats Margarito" argument on the first 4 rounds of the fight. Fights are 12 rounds hello!

Mayweather has never faced a guy like Margarito. He has faced pressure, but not pressure like this. This one is special, whether you want to believe that or not.

Mayweather would not be able to avoid Margarito. Margarito is not old legs Baldomir. He will cut the ring off and make Mayweather fight. If Castillo did it, if Hatton did it, if Chavez did it, then guess what? The premiere pressure fighter at 147 will do it too! Margarito actually does good at cutting guys off. And last night was evident of it. See Gomez try and cut Cotto off and then see Margarito do it. Worlds of difference.

Mayweather would not be able to discourage Margarito. Margarito is down for the whole 12 rounds. He doesn't stop even if Mayweather wins the first 11 rounds. He will still be looking to hurt him in the 12th.
There isn't one damn punch in Mayweather's arsenal that will discourage Margarito from walking through his traps. Not even the ring post is gonna help him here.

Mayweather would not be able to absorb Margarito's strength. Sure little Ricky Hatton couldn't do much once he found Mayweather, but Margarito will. He has the strength to smash punches right off of Mayweather's guard and still hurt him. He eventually will break down that guard and start landing hard shots downstairs and even upstairs.

Just like Chavez did to Roger. He will break him down by staying on top of him, hitting him in his guard, smiling at the counters and eventually crumbling his will to fight back.

Why do you keep bringing up Chavez and Roger. Margarito is and never will be as good as Chavez, and Mayweather is a better fighter than his uncle. How could you bring up Mayweather never faced a fighter like Margo, who has Margo faced anywhere near as slick and skilled as Mayweather? No one.:bart
