I met both of them at the golden gloves on the same night years ago... they signed my tickets. awesome night.
Great performance by a true boxing master, but also against an opponent who himself was fairly limited in the skill-department, let's be honest. I prefer to watch Toney's first 2 fights with Mike McCallum because in those fights there were similar skills on both sides of the fence. Those guys did some BOXING, man.
Not to take anything away from Toney...But Barkley was long gone as a fighter when this fight happened. But Damn Toney looked good!!!
Toney was an awesome counter-puncher/in-fighter. I agree that Barkley had seen better days, but he was tailor-made for Toney regardless, IMO.
haha, ******* THAT'S the fight i thought of when i read the thread title (followed by flashes of ali-willaims and mayweather-gatti (rip))
come on man, barkley was no bum but he didn't have world class skills. just a tough, strong son of a ***** with a damn good chin. what duran, and toney did, in their respective fights was brilliant but did show barkley's limitations at the top level
